COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A full-bodied, American-Style I.P.A. that is bronze in color, Castaway IPA is "dry hopped" (aged with liberal amounts of whole hop flowers after fermentation) for assertive hop flavor and aroma. The bitterness is balanced by the malty body of the beer.

On tap at the brewery-- This one rates way up there on my scale. This brew has everything I want in a beer--superb balance of flavors, hearty hop aroma and taste, nice pallate & appearance--very close to the perfect brew. Wish the brewery wasn't thousands of miles away...

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 6 %. It also has a freshness date and a short description of the beer. Appearance: The body is cloudy and has a light golden color. Itís head was small and settles quickly. It keeps just a wispy thin film with a ring of creamy bubbles at the edge of the glass. Smell: There is a nice hop character in the nose. It brings notes of citrusy grapefruit and tropical pineapple to the nose. Taste / Palate: The flavor is medium bodied with nice juicy hop flavor though out. It has very nice light bready malt sweetness backing up the citrusy and tropical fruity hop flavors. It finishes with just a quick flash of very mild hop bitterness. It feel light, but not thin and it is very drinkable. Notes: If youíre a hard core hop head this may not be for you but I love the balance and drinkability in this beer. This may also be a good IPA for craft beer newbies or people who like hop flavor with out heavy enamel stripping bitterness.

On tap at Lulus in lahaina. Aroma is hoppy, some citrus, some dank. Almost like warrior or magnum hops. Pours clear orange color with nice head and good lacing. Flavor is bitter for your usual ipa. Really good ipa. Palate is medium body with a long bitter finish.

This ones solid. I havenít had a ton of Kona beers but the ones I have had were very good so I saw this and had to try it. Very refreshing IPA. Not a hop bomb, but itís not trying to be. Itís nicely balanced but still has a great tropical floral aroma. Could drink these all night. I think I just might. Great beer!

12oz bottle pours with a clear gold body that has thin copper hues and supports a white head of foam. The aroma offers up sweet pink grapefruit, a dash of lemon grass and the some spicy hops and then cantaloupe. Nice. The taste starts with a mix of citrus, mango and spicy hops and then it picks up spicy dank onions and a dash of lemon grass creating an interesting and tasty take on the style. This is pretty rich, full of hop flavor and balanced by just enough hop bitterness to give it depth. I like this.

Draft @ Falling Rock: Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head. Nice big piney aroma. Matching big piney flavor. Some sweet malt as a base but hop foward all the way. Moderately bitter long dry finish.

12 oz bottle-Pours hazy orange with a one finger head. Aroma is strong in mango and peaches, some hops. The taste is pretty much what i expected, tropical fruits, mellow hops, smooth and creamy, quite delicious.Body is medium and so is carbonation. Really enjoyed this, might be my new go to Kona beer!

A clear dark yellow beer with a small white head. The aroma is tropical fruit and floral hops. The flavor is floral, piney, a bit fruity, and decent malt.

I tell you what, I almost didnít purchase this because it was rated an 88 on here. Good thing I bought it! I knew from the moment I opened it and my nose was greeted by grapefruit and citrus Iíd enjoy it. Itís a great IPA. Pours a honey gold color, a finger of white tiny bubbly head. As I drink it, it has great lacing. The nose is lots of grapefruit, lemon, orange, some sweet bready malts, and pine needle. Itís well balanced, not a whole lot of bitterness on the toungue, and the sweetness of the malts really comes through here. The description says full-bodied, but Iíd say itís medium bodied. High drinkability. A well crafted IPA. As far as a standard IPA goes, this makes my top 10 for sure.

Uh...Kona owned by Inbev, who wouldíve thunk? Haha, apparently recipes donít necessarily go by the wayside. Good job Kona on maintaining that. The bottling date I see is stamped: April 10, 2014. I poured this into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice glossy clear yellow to golden amber color. The lacing, oh yeah, spectacular, as it looks just like any other craft beer, it speckles a bit and shows a decent semi-thickness running about the glass. It absolutely looks superbly. The smell, geeze louise, uh...super nice grapefruit bitter hoppiness with some other nice citrusy aspects coming out as it warms. I will say that there is a nice light maltiness helping to balance all of this out. The taste is pretty much on par to blow one outa the water for the "above par" AIPA as it has a super nice bittersweet grapefruit flavoring leading all of the way through. There is a semi-sweet citrus-like aftertaste and a decent bitter dry finish. On the palate, this one sits about a light to medium on the body and ends up having a fairly decent sessionable quality running about it. The carbonation does show a respectful harsh quality for a normal AIPA and tells me this is worthy. Overall, Inbev owned, ha. I say who cares as whoever can make the best beer wins in the end. This is more than worthy.
