COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Da Grind Buzz Kona Coffee Imperial Stout is an assertive, rich and hearty dark stout complemented by freshly roasted 100 percent Kona coffee. The stout style is a Russian Imperial stout, historically brewed strong to survive its long voyage from London to the Baltic region. Course ground dark roast 100 percent pure Kona coffee beans were added to the brew during the aging process. The beans were grown and harvested by Cornwell Estate in Holualoa. The brewers were able to watch freshly harvested beans being roasted before transporting them to the brewhouse and adding them to the batch. The beer will be served on nitrogen, giving a smooth, creamy mouth-feel that complements the roasted coffee flavor.

Black with fluffy tan head and lace. Chocolate and coffee dominate the nose. Coffee, roasted malt, and a hint of abv. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Creamy head with rich dark color. The flavor is mild for a RIS with lots of berry

Tap at brewpub. Pour is almost black with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, light molasses, and a hint of coffee. Less coffee than expected. Flavor is rich roasted malt and a light roasted coffee flavor with a creamy and roasty finish. Pretty easy to drink, which is good for warm weather.

On tap at the brewpub. Very dark, minimum lacing in a tulip glass. Espresso nose, coffee, dark chocolate, mmmm. Oily palate, with heavy coffee, a bit heavy handed, not a lot of complexity or subtlety but very nice nonetheless.

On tap at the Portland Holiday Ale festival. Colour... nearly black with no head at all. Nose... mild coffee, vanilla and marshmallow creme. Palate... essentially no CO2, rather thin bodied, but a burst of cafe au lait followed by caramel creme, toffee, vanilla and a smooth sweet finish.

At Kona Brewpub- 14 oz snifter. Jet black with a strong coffee aroma. This is so rich, it’s like drinking dessert. Chocolate cake, espresso, very bitter finish. Thicker than the Pipeline Porter, and a bit richer. Excellent!

UPDATED: AUG 27, 2010 "now we’re talking. i love the pipeline porter, which is a porter brewed with Kona coffee. this is the imperial stout version, so apply all the goodness of the porter, and apply to the body and full flavor of an imperial stout. Yummy!"

Smells like a small shop that sells only coffee. Very dark brown but clear color. Sweet mocha taste, light coffee end. Thin body, almost a porter. The nose on this is great, the rest is good too.

On tap at Koko Marina. Poured a deep brown, almost black with a thin tan head. Aroma was awesome with notes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, and dark fruits. Flavor was primarily coffee, but chocolate was present, along with a slightly bitter finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel. This was my favorite beer at the pub.

On tap, at Koko Marina Brewpub. Pours dark chocolate brown with a small tan head. Aroma is rich with mocha, espresso, and perhaps some fig/plum. There is black coffee, vanilla, and creamy milk chocolate primarily, resulting in a delicious blend that asserts coffee without being weighed down in bitterness. Palate is creamy, and finish is memorably long. I’m proud of my local brewpub for creating something this world class!
