Fire Rock Pale Ale is a crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt. Hood hops added to each brew.

Bottled. Light dusty grain aroma, with a bit of old paper and some pear skin. Mild butter. Amber-orange clear with quickly dissipating head. Watery body with medium-high carbonation. Starts rather dry with neutral fruit malt sweetness, a bit of light brown sugar, and sort of a malt liquor undertone. Light bitter nutty finish with dry after. Sweet and biscuity.

Bottle. Fairly dark amber color... amost brown with a half finger of head on top. Aromas are of caramel malt, pineapple and some citrus hops. Flavor tends to the malty/caramel side of the specturm that is present in the nose... and while the hops are there, they don’t come through crisply. Very nicely balanced, especially given the malt heavy body.

We drove up the west coase of the Big Island looking for a place to eat and came across the Kona Pub and Brewery. The food was good, and the beer.... This was good on tap. I also tried a bottle at a Side Street Inn in Honolulu. Not bad.

Bottle, straight from Hawaii. Very minimal aroma; standard amber/copper appearance. Flavor starts with some spicy/piney hops, but the finish is flat. Palate was a bit rough for my liking (maybe a character of the dry hops). Overall, about average for a pale ale (although I’m picky when it comes to this variety).

12 oz. bottle - Pours a clear copper color with a one finger thick off white head. Nice lacing. Soft, tiny bubble carbonation. Aroma is caramel malt and light floral hops. Flavor is sweet malt and light hops. Medium body. A little more malt than I expected. I nice, easy drinking PA.

Hazy copper pour with a creamy head. The nose is dominated by caramel malt notes, supplemented by a soft punch of hoppy citrus and earthy yeast, Nice creamy mouthfeel. The hop characted is a bit more defined in the body, noting sweet grapefruit, orange zest and flowery rose. Plenty of creamy toffee to back things up. The finish is mildly bitter, playing up to the sessionability of the beer. Another great APA.

Bottle. Pours a clear, copper color with a medium, white head. Decent lacing. Sweet, light hoppy aroma. Good mouthfeel. Flavor is similar to a good American Pale Ale with a nice hoppiness along with a citrusy finish. Decent in a bottle, but much better at the brewpub in Kona.

On Tap at the Old Boise Brew Fest 07 pours out clear amber off white head. A little hop aroma but not much else going on.

Pours a clear light copper color with very little head. Once the little bit of head goes away, the beer looks quite dead. Very mild aromas of hops and biscuity malt. The hop aroma was weak and reminded me of cellophane. The hop character is a bit more abiding in the taste, but still nothing great. A decent brew; sessionable but nothing exciting.

Pours bronze with a rocky beige head. the aroma is fairly subdued with some smooth caramel malt and a bit of citrus / piny hops that are quite clean. Medium / thin body that is on the watery side with moderate semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with smooth toasted caramel malt then it gets a bit grainy with some earthy / pine hops with some spicy hops as well. A nice session beer, but nothing that will blow you away.
