COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fire Rock Pale Ale is a crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt. Hood hops added to each brew.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy orange color. Malty aroma with hints of caramel and very slight hop character coming through. Medium body with notes of malt, some roastiness up front with a slight bitter and dry finish. Good balance, and enjoyable especially for those who enjoy a malty, bitter finish. Overall: (B)

Maker: Kona Brewing Company, Kailua Kona, Haiwaii, USA *** Beer: Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale (bottled, 330ml) *** Style: American Pale Ale *** ALC.VOL.: 5.9% *** "Fire Rock Pale Ale is a crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt. Hood hops added to each brew." [brewery notes] *** Colour: Deep clear amber, with a small, fluffy off-white head. *** Nose: Lemon, oranges, pinewood, mild herbs, a slight medicinal note maybe. *** Texture: Medium body, hardly watery. Moderate to active carbonation. *** Taste: Caramel is very strong in the beginning, mixed with citrus fruit and pine. Pine rises towards the middle, with resin emerging. Citrus still present, caramel malts retreating. Starts out slightly sweetish, but middle and finish are dry. A wee medical note in the finish, together with the pine and hops. Aftertaste is moderately bitter, hoppy, with some caramel malt left. *** Impressions: Rather good APA with a nice resinous kick in the butt after a mildly sweetish, malty beginning. Citrus notes are rather muted in this one. Still, there is a certain hollowness to the flavour, possibly because of the carbonation and a slight lack of body.

Sort of a "meh" beer. The aroma was normal enough, grassy and moderately hopped. The flavor was solidly on the sweet side. But I tired of it quickly and it felt sort of thoughtless. Bottle.

Looks delicious. Thick beige head, marmalade in color, very light haze to it. Hops and tart strawberries on the nose. Extremely steady drink here, no surprises....a nice alternative for when you don’t want an overhopped west coast IPA. Mild fruit notes in the finish with a shake of pepper.
