COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fire Rock Pale Ale is a crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt. Hood hops added to each brew.

Was not a fan of the fire rock. The hops were just too overwhelming and seemed to dominate the beer. Not much taste outside of that.

Bottle: Poured a light copper color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention. Aroma of light dry hoppy notes with light cereal notes also discernable. Taste is dominated by dry cereal notes with light dry hoppy hops notes with faint residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but hops flavours are below par for the style.

L: pours a standard copper with small dissipating head, slight lacing on swishes. S: I’m getting a pleasant whiff of pine off the top, sticking my nose in there are floral notes, and slightly sweet malt reminiscent of an English pale. T: great balance in the taste. The malts present well, a little sweetness like the smell, and citrus comes through, subdued and hard to discern which but providing great support on the palate. F: a tad chewy and oily on the backend, not a lot of bitter presence, but quite quaffable. O: this was a training wheels beer for me and it was very nice to revisit it after a few years and my palate shifts. Still holds up very well.

Schiuma bianco sporco, fine e poco persistente.

Maker: Kona Brewing Company, Kailua Kona, Haiwaii, USA *** Beer: Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale (bottled, 330ml) *** Style: American Pale Ale *** ALC.VOL.: 5.9% *** "Fire Rock Pale Ale is a crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt. Hood hops added to each brew." [brewery notes] *** Colour: Deep clear amber, with a small, fluffy off-white head. *** Nose: Lemon, oranges, pinewood, mild herbs, a slight medicinal note maybe. *** Texture: Medium body, hardly watery. Moderate to active carbonation. *** Taste: Caramel is very strong in the beginning, mixed with citrus fruit and pine. Pine rises towards the middle, with resin emerging. Citrus still present, caramel malts retreating. Starts out slightly sweetish, but middle and finish are dry. A wee medical note in the finish, together with the pine and hops. Aftertaste is moderately bitter, hoppy, with some caramel malt left. *** Impressions: Rather good APA with a nice resinous kick in the butt after a mildly sweetish, malty beginning. Citrus notes are rather muted in this one. Still, there is a certain hollowness to the flavour, possibly because of the carbonation and a slight lack of body.
