4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
I adore everything about this beer. Potentially my favourite (although I admit my prominent bias due to my love of browns and coconut). A pungent nutty coconut scent that smells of actual coconut as opposed to candy. Creamy, medium body. Every aspect of the taste is wonderful. Gustatory bliss. Malt, coconut, caramel, and some mild bitterness and hops to finish just to ensure that the beer isn’t too sweet. Kona Koko Brown: I love you.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2013 Bottle.
A- Wood, coconut, caramel, coffee.
A- Dark red/copper color, clear liquid, off white head.
T- Balanced. Nice coconut tones, subtle coffee and caramel tones.
P- Medium body, smooth texture, average carbonation, nutty finish.
O- A wonderful brown ale. The coconut notes make this really stand out. Along with the nut and caramel and coffee notes, this is a great brew. Exceptional for winter days away from the islands.

A: Pours a cherry brown ale with absolute clarity. Three finger burnt cream head retires down over five minutes to leave broken quilt of the same. Coarse spider web lacing. Good looker.
S: Smells more like the meat of a coconut, rather than the essence (like many coconut beers, IMO). This of course over a very simple brown ale nose. Hints of clove in there as well, some vanilla.
T: Wow, uber Coconut! Very nice up front. The beer has tones of cocoa and light cinnamon as well. Simple, one dimensional, but nice.
M: Light to medium body with medium carbonation. Subtle oral slicking.
D: Good beer. surprised by this offering from Kona. Glad they took an apparently unique approach to an up and coming category (coconut) of beer. I like it.

On tap at the brewery, served in a tasting glass. Pours clear toffee with a small tan head that fades to a thin rim of bubbles and leaves no lace. The nose has big toasted coconut, nutty, toffeeish malts and a hint of coffee. The flavour is medium-dry with nutty malts reminiscent of an English mild, lots of toasted coconut, herbal hops for balance. Finish is medium-long, with lots of toasted coconut. On the palate, it is light-medium in body with a watery-milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice brown ale with toasted coconut providing a nice complexity. 2013-08-10

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Almost clear ruby liquid with small white head. Aroma of toast, coconut, chocolate, sugar, raisins and fruity yeast esters. Taste is light sweet and light bitter with notes of coconut, toast, nuts, vanilla and raw sugar. Medium bodied with high carbonation. The coconut is mostly just annoying.

Out of the chiller@The Turtle’s Head, CA, 27/10/13. Pale ruby with a hint of halo. Huge sweet bourbon and coke nose. Sweet, virtually identical flavour. A novelty. Half a bottle is plenty enough.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
FROM NOTES: July 3, ’12
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.
A: Strong coconut, but some light malt sweetness comes through.
A: Pours a clear deep amber to dark brown in color with hints of garnet red. The beer has a half-finger tall fizzy light beige head that reduces to a large patch of thick film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate lacing is observed.
T: Underwhelming; toasted malts, light grains, some sweet coconut essence. Tastes to me like a weak brown ale, nothing really standing out.
P: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.
O: It’s a bit of a novelty with the chocolate and coconut flavors, but if those are your things you should try it. Not an everyday beer, but a good one nonetheless.

12 oz bottle poured into a frosted mug at Billy’s in Pittsburgh, PA. Quite delicious with plenty of coconut that doesn’t overpower the other wonderful stuff in here. This is a beer that’s waiting to be discovered.

Tap at the brewery. Mahagony brown, low head. Light roast aroma, a bit honey. Full-on roast, chocolate and coconut in the flavor. Mellow, chewy sparkly mouthfeel. Safe to say there is no brown ale like this otherplace.
