2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12oz bottle, dated 2/22/11. Pours a light brown with a medium creamy off-white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is sweet (almost buttery) toasted coconut and lots of it with a little acidic chocolate.
The flavor is sweet brown sugar and coconut with some buttery chocolate and a very slight acidic bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is rather light bodied and watery.
Overall, interesting with lots of coconut but itís too one-dimensional and way too sweet.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled on 9/3/2011. This brown ale pours a deep reddish brown color form a 12oz bottle. Large sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, fruity, molasses and sweet. Some coconut and vanilla as well. A medium bodied brown ale. The malts are caramel, fruity and sweet with lots of nuttiness. The hops are earthy and floral. Nice balance. Decent carbonation. Perhaps a touch sweet overall, but the additional of coconut really does add some interesting flavors to the beer. Not a boring brown ale. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
bottle at azwine 3/16/11. bottled date of 2/1/11.
clear ruby brown with a small almond tinted off white head.
initial aroma of metallic malt.... followed by buttery coconut, toasted nuttiness, malt, caramel and chocolate chip cookie dough after the metal fades.
the flavor is the same but shows way more coconut than the aroma lead on... it tastes like a combination of brown sugar instant oatmeal and chocolate chip cookie dough!
it is light bodied, very crisp and quaffable though at times it feels a bit oily.

4.1 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From tap at the Kona Brewing Co. resturant at the Honolulu International Airport. Pours mahogany and frothy with a hint of nuts and sweet toffee flavor and aroma that sends you straight to the beaches of Paradise. Incredibly smooth and roasty flavors are present. A very distinctive and un-sampled flavor thatís great with a Bacon Cheese burger...uuuumm, good.

Bottle from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Pours ruddy dark brown with a fizzy/creamy beige head. I think I can smell coconut. Med + body. Flavor is coconut with some chocolaty roast malt. Perhaps a touch of vanilla. Very different.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours medium brown, with a tan head. Aroma is sweet and a little malty. Taste is definitely coconut, and very sweet. I have tried one other cocnut brown ale, Missoula 5-0 by Big Sky, which makes far more subtle use of cocnut, whcih I prefer. Still, not a bad beer at all. Thumbs up.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 20, 2011 12 oz. bottle as a trade bonus. And itís a good one. Pours a clear mahogany color with a finger-thick beige head that settles into a thin film and some lace in the glass. Aroma of coconut, vanilla, toasted malts, cocoa beans, toasted brown sugar, and some earth. Flavor of coconut, toasted brown sugar, caramel and toasted malts, vanilla, and rain water. Light-bodied, with a toasty, earthy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This is a unique, surprisingly outstanding brown ale.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A particularly nice beer for a brown ale, the coconut adds both a nice aroma on the nose and a light and toasty flavor to complement the nutty malt with a hint of citrus.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark red brown with a nice one inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of coconut, chocolate, nuts, malt, some smoke, caramel and some alcohol. Similar aroma. Reminds me of an Almond Joy or Mounds candy bar. The body is slick and on the watery side. Drinkable and rather enjoyable. Not bad, but I was expecting a little more
