Is there anything more iconic of the lush tropics than the coconut? The delicious heart of this island treasure has a nutty, toffee flavor and aroma that sends you straight to the beaches of Paradise. Kick back with a Koko Brown, brewed with real toasted coconut, and savor the mahogany color and smooth, roasty malt taste. Available Winter/Spring Koko Brown pairs well with coconut and caramel flavors, such as Thai curries, BBQ meats and carne asada. Its refreshing nutty aroma makes for the perfect beer after a day on the water.

Reddish pour with a single finger head. Aroma of coconut is pretty strong, but not in a bad way. Hints of grain too. Mouth is medium bodied and creamy. Taste is nutty with lots of coconut. There is an almost cola like taste in this one too. Overall a pretty nice beer.

Bottle: Poured a clear brown color ale with a medium size light brown foamy head with some retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet coconut is totally dominant. Taste is also dominated by loads of sweet coconut taste with light caramel malt also noticeable. Body is light with good carbonation. Interesting but overly sweet and the coconut is so powerful that it gets to be overwhelming.

More orange than brown with no head. Toast aroma and only slight coconut. More coconut in the flavor but malt ruse the day. Itís okay but I need more coconut or a lasting flavor.

malty and slightly sweet with coconut notes; the toasted coconut blends well with the roasted malt; well balanced

A nice deep clear brown color with a fine tan head. Nutty, bready and vanilla aroma. Medium body. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. A bit unbalanced. Lots of vanilla in the flavor. Not to much, but it would be hard to drink two of this one.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a clear chestnut color. The head is a little over a finger high, and off-white in shade. Its texture is somewhat soapy, ergo it doesnít really leave a huge amount of lacing on the glass. Retention is pretty good. S: It brings a decent amount of toasted coconut at first. After a while, though, the nose becomes somewhat chocolaty, and even fruity at times. And after even more time, the coconut really comes out. Iíll give this nose credit - itís interested me, and brown ales donít interest me. T: Coconut notes are more subtle here than in the nose, but theyíre definitely here. Apart from that, it starts with a decent brown sugar and milk chocolate flavors, with something suggesting herbal hops in the finish. The hop levels are perfect here - they help to dry out the sweetness some, yet donít even come close to wrecking the balance. Itís one of those rare beers that grows on me the more I drink it. M: Iím really enjoying the soft dryness of this. Though itís a bit on the thin side, itís not really a chugger - some residual sugar does linger on the finish. Frankly, I kind of donít want to chug this. O: This is a pleasant surprise. So many íMurican brown ales go the íbalancedí route, yet arenít really that delicate or sophisticated to compensate for its less exciting flavor profile. But this is. Brown ale is a hit-or-miss style with me - this isnít an emphatic hit, but damnit itís a hit nonetheless.

On tap at Yard House Waikiki 221214. Coconut definitely dominates this beer from the aroma to the flavour to the aftertaste. Thin bodied and brown in colour.
