Poured from bottle. Aroma of tanning oil and smoke. Clear mahogany, tan head. I get coconut, cream soda, smoke (perhaps from burning coconut shells), maybe a touch of bourbon. Slightly sticky. Enjoyable, not something I will crave in the future.

Light bodied Brown Ale. Kona hits the chocolate coconut flavor right on, with bitterness and roast to balance out the beer. Definitely a unique Brown Ale.

Pours a two finger khaki head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Very dark brown color. Light-medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Coconut nose. Flavor is a funky sweet coconut. Not your usual brown. $1.75 for a 12oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT. Bottled Mar 28, 12.

Pour is a brown with a large tan head. Aroma is some chocolate malt with coconut. Flavor is a big dose of coconut with some minor vanilla bringing things up. Finish leaves a nice freash coconut water on the tounge. This could have been another boring brown ale but with the addition of the coconut it I am really digging this. And I’m not that fond of coconut.

Bottle from Canal’s Berlin. Pours out a moderate to light brown color with a small white head. Aroma is of freshly toaste coconut, light caramel malts, vanilla and some sugary notes. Taste is milky smooth toasted coconut, light caramel, vanilla, bread, and maybe a little bitterness on the finish. I like this one, but couldn’t have too many.

Pours maple-mahogany into the glass, with a fully diminished head that leaves little to no lacing. The nose is nice, of coconut and malty. Flavors are sweet, of roasted coconut and toffee. The finish is clean, with a hint of coconut, nuts and sourdough... interesting. The body is smooth and drinkable to the palate, with a subtly active mouthfeel. It’s put together nicely, and a very solid take on the the brown ale. Nice offering from Kona.

On draught at Slice Parloe - Albuquerque. Coconut aroma, nearly opaque dark brown color with slight, fine-bubble head. Somewhat heavy body with effervescent mouthfeel. Slightly sweet dark malt flavor with subtle coconut character. I’d say the sweetness tops any roasted character. Overall, OKAY for one pint.
