COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Lavaman Red Ale is a malty, red ale with strong caramel notes and a subtle chocolate malt flavor. The pronounced maltiness is balanced by the delicate blend of Pacific Northwest hops resulting in a smooth, full-bodied beer.

Had at the Brewpub in KONA!!! The pour is a bright amber red in the body with a thick two finger yellowish head. A hop forward nose with a nearly nonexistant caramelly malt and a bit of citrus fruit. My first taste was a bit too grainy with a lightly citrus hopped taste. An aftertaste of light bitterness and an unusual herbal note. Overall, this is an okay brew.

Had it on tap at a hotel in Maui. If I had to describe it in a word, that word would be "average". The best thing it has going for it is its striking red appearance. It was definitely an eye-catcher. There was a slight hoppy aroma to it, but it was very faint. Taste was below-average. A very slight sweetness upon the beer initially hitting the tongue, but that quickly gave way to overpowering bitterness, with a very bitter finish. That might be some people’s cup of tea, but it’s definitely not mine.

Tap @ their Honolulu Pub... Poured deep amber, reddish with a thin white head. Citrus, piney hops mesh with a delicate malt balance. Clean finish with more hops creeping in. Straight forward.

Draft: Pours a clear deep copper amber with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Has a lightly sweet toasted caramel malty nose with a touch of earthy hops. Starts with good fullness and sweet toasty light caramel flavor with decent bittering hop balance before a smooth slightly drier finish. A pretty true to style and drinkable red ale, but nothing exceptional.

On draft at Kona location in Oahu. When it comes to their reds, I’ll take the Cascadia any day. Although this really shouldn’t be in the same category - the hops were significantly less than in the Cascadia. This was more of a standard american amber with some tasty malts and a bitter hop character to clean up the profile.

On tap at Duke’s in Honolulu, HI. Pours a clear, amber-red colored body with a finger-width, frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is caramel, some light florals, and a hint of grass. Flavor is similar. Caramel, a touch of chocolate, some florals, and a light grass. Finishes with a light-moderate bitterness and a light, balanced caramel that leaves a medium length aftertaste. Medium-light body and moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent red. Easy drinking with a light, malty sweetness and well balanced bitterness. Not bad.
