Longboard Island Lager is a smooth refreshing lager fermented and aged for weeks at cold temperatures to yield its exceptionally smooth flavor. A delicate, slightly spicy hop aroma complements the malty body of this beer.

Pours a deep yellow with thin white head. Mild aroma of sweet malts and citrus hops. Flavor was sweet malts, dough, grains and hop bite at the finish. I liked the balance of the smooth texture and the nice lemony hop bite at the end. A nice summer session beer. It may seem even tastier because I was drinking this on the beach at the Jersey shore while watching a bunch of surfers.

Bottle. Pours a straw yellow with a decent white head. Head disappears quick. A lot of malts and water. Taste is kind of sweet but not too bad. Citrus and lemon are also present.

A Mes rate: Bottle at GBBF.
Pale gold with a reasonable white head. Slight grain, some pepper and a lot of fruit. Faint all round but a tolerable lager really.

12 ounce bottle from By The Bottle in the ’Couve, WA--Poured a dull straw yellow body with a medium white head. Nose of drab graininess and slight citrus hops. Malty, creamy, watery, just a session lager. Some residual sweetness follows but mostly just not much to remember.

She came to me a light clear yellow with a decent head which faded to a thin layer of bubbles on top of my brew. In the nose I detect faint aromas of mild hops, lemon, and flowers. Overall though, a rather light nose. After a few quaffs, I detect some crisp hop bite with a lemon spice bittering bite in the background. Smoother, lightly sweet and creamy malt characters. Later on, some hints of orange and citrus notes mingle amidst the light body and mouthfeel. From start to finish, Longboard keeps her subtle, mildly hoppy, citrus palate tinged with hints of malt sweetness and smoothness.
Definitely a lighter lager. None of the flavor profiles overwhelm, choosing instead to remain subtle and slightly subdued. Whether this is ultimately a detriment to the Longboard Lager is up to the drinker. Personally, it is a bit too light and subdued for my own personal taste. When I can grab a clean, smooth, light and easy drinking pilsner or lager from someone else, I will. Fire Rock and Wailua are still both winners from Kona, but Longboard disappoints unfortunately.

Bottle. Pours a copper amber color with a small frothy white head. Not much on the nose but corn malt. The taste is a caramel malt with a bitter finish. A good session brew but nothing special with this one.

Gold, thin creamy white head. Soft citrus and floral earth notes rides hints of cornbread. Light hoppy flavors continue with hints of bread and corn throughout. Light bodied, soft carbonation, nutty earth finish. Not awful by any means, but just very plain and boring....

I was very surprised to enjoy this Hawaiian lager on tap the other evening, because I expected much less. Not much head, light yellow coloring, light aroma of hops. The flavor, however, packs a punch! Bitter, spicy hops are balanced by a sweetness to this brew that makes it worth trying again. Enjoy!
