Longboard Island Lager is a smooth refreshing lager fermented and aged for weeks at cold temperatures to yield its exceptionally smooth flavor. A delicate, slightly spicy hop aroma complements the malty body of this beer.

12oz. bottle. Golden straw color with a thin film of white head. Muted grainy malt aroma with an additional sweaty sulpher character. Grainy flavors combined with a lemony, grassy hop character. Slight residual sweetness in the finish with some earthen grassiness. Mouthfeel is light, slightly crisp.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a tiny white head and faint lined lacing. Sour yeast (dough, sweat) and malt (meal, straw) aroma with a fruity nose. Straw and grainy malt flavor with sweet yeast and lightly acidic. Light bodied and spicy palate, dry finish.

On tap at "The Shack" in Kapa’a, Kauai. Very light aroma, some hint of citrus and malt. Pale yellow with a nice creamy white head. Corn, some light malt and a hint of grass in the finish. Lighter body, but not watery. Nice creamy mouthfeel.

12oz bottle packaged Aug 31 05. Gold color, slightly hazy, no real head...citrus tinged malt aroma is mild. Crisp, moderately bitter finish. Decent lager, but my least liked of the Kona’s I’ve had. A bit better on tap than from the bottle, in my expereince.

Pour is pale golden yellow with a sticky big bubbled fading white head...smell is sweet grains at first with notes of skunky citrus and grass as it warmed...taste is rather chewy and sweet...thick mouthfeel...interesting palate for sure...sweet, grass, wood, skunk...finish is quick and slightly bitter...

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2006 GABF 05. Pours gold with a faint hops and orange aroma. Flavor is a weak pilsner. Watery palate. RE-RATE Bottle, 11/4/06. Pours faint yellow/gold with an aroma of corn and faint orange. Hints of malt are in there as well. Spikey sour citrus, like a hybrid of lime, lemon, and orange. Dull rounding of the flavors. Thicker palate than last time. Not bad.

Assume a 2005 bottle, from Liquor Mart, consumed on 10/13/2005. Clear, copper-gold-yellow. Some bubbles. One finger white head seems well retained initially. Smells of a typical pale lager: vanilla, creamed corn. Some metallic notes as well. Bits of graininess intersparsed with grass. Some cat urine. Flavor is strikingly similar to white grape juice at first. Some grass, parsley, more white grape juice. Not a poor body to it, just dosent taste right. Retro pale grains. Mouthfeel is ok, not overcarbonated. Reminds me of bottled Russian pale lagers. Just too much cat piss and sweetness reminiscent of white grapes. Nice copper sheen shows that there is more than just pale/pils malt in here. Hops are skunked badly. Not my idea of the type of beer that should be exported. I feel bad scoring it low, as I bet this would be really good fresh on draught and I know this hasnt travelled well. But it’s the brewer’s choice to export this thing all the way from Hawaii to Colorado, so I feel justified in holding them to it.

Draft. Amber beer with a thin white head. Mineral aroma with some noble hops. Clean malty flavor with some earthy mineralness. Easy drinking and thirst quenching.

Sampled from bottle. Pours a faintly hazy yellow-gold with a thin white head. Aroma is about as pleasant as a dirty hooker: musty, sour, floral and spicy. Flavor is nicely bitter and clean with a small flavor hop addition (spice/grapefruit). Medium-bodied, moderately carbonated and easy to drink. It’s OK, but less than what I was expecting from this brewer.
