Longboard Island Lager is a smooth refreshing lager fermented and aged for weeks at cold temperatures to yield its exceptionally smooth flavor. A delicate, slightly spicy hop aroma complements the malty body of this beer.

I recently tried this beer on a trip to the APS/JPS conference on Kona. This is a decent lager. Not much head of course, but offering a little bit of hops and bitterness in the flavor. I find it interesting to try a Hawaiian beer, but it’s not quite enough to win me over coming from California...

I had it from the bottle. The taste is corn malt, some bitterness, and a slight hint of hops. It bordered on bland. It was crisp and refreshing enough to still be decent though.

Freshly mashed grain aromas, strawberry candy. Clear gold with a fairly lasting white head. Fruity, grainy, a little butter, some grassy hops. Light bodied.

The bottle is a small work of art. Nice little chubby bottle with Hawaiian islands struck in the bottle together with the brewery’s greeting: Liquid Aloha. The color is pale golden and the beer do not have much foaming. The aroma is very limited with some malt. Taste wise it is also a bit thin. Weak taste of caramel which finishes with a small discreet hoppy bitterness, despite everything keeps a fairly long finish. Towards the end, the little spicy, and it is not entirely in line with a lager. However, it is ok and easy to drink.

Restrained aroma in a yellow pour. Pretty bland and lacking any bite. Only slightly better than the mass produced versions of the style. Pretty disappointing given the environment it is produced in.

Excellent hot summer day beer. It’s 91 degrees and humid on a Friday after work. One of the better ones out there and head and shoulders above the macro lagers.

Bottle. 4.6%. Best before 31.05.16. Pours a slightly hazy, very pale yellow, with a diminishing white head. Weak aroma; slightly tart, citrusy. Light cereal note as it warms. Same flavour, also weak, though not as weak as the aroma. Somewhat hoppy finish. Lingering grassy note. A wee bit too much carbonation. Overall not really bad, just... boring. 13.08.15.
