Pours a medium dark brown with reddish hue with residue. Tan head that lasts. Aroma is raisin, cranberry, pineapple, with some muskiness. Very complex. Taste is excellent as well...dark fruits and pine. Beware to all...the alcohol content changes frequently.

Good roasted malt and hopped up barleywine. Some roasted pineapple flavors. Light saltiness with smoked meats, rasins. Creamy dryish finish. Very well balanced. On tap at the brewery in Kona.

GABF 2007. Smells of buttery toffee and raisins, classic BW smell. Smooth in the mouth, nicely hoppy on the end. The beginning is like a light fruit syrup, a concentrated but delicate (not treacly) sweetness. I would not be opposed to drinking this more often, but it is what it is.

2005 - On tap at the Kailua-Kona brewery. Pours out a rather dull brown with few if any highlights and a thin head. The aroma is rich, sweet, and malty but falls a little flat. Flavor is good--strong alcohol and a good amount of maltiness--though less sweet than I would have expected. This is combined with a high degree of hops bitterness with little hops flavor. A good barleywine though not this brewery’s forte.

2/19/05. On tap at Toronado Barleywine Festival ’04 in San Francisco, CA 2/19/05. 2002 Vintage. Beady tan head dissipates quickly. Deep red-brown colors with burgundy shading. Medium-hazy with weak lacing. Fruity aroma with subtle sweetness to whet the appetite. Big sweet flavor with some dry bitterness, playing in the mouth with a fruity bite and hints of tough leather. A nice interplay that really adds to the beer. Leathery dryness accentuated in the finish. A bit thin from overworking, and I think it’d be killer if it had a bit creamier texture and maltier taste. Impressive, studied alcohol pop. The 12.5% is there, but it all seemed tastefully controlled.

On tap 10/19 @ Kona Brewing Co. in Honolulu. Pours a deep burgandy with reddish tones and a light tan head that is mostly lasting leaving nice lacing. Has a rich malty flavor and aroma with hints of caramel. This well-balanced brew has a creamy texture leaving a dry bitterness. An excellent sipping brew that is warming.

Small head over deep brown. Hoppy and minty aroma. Taste more of an Imperial IPA with a bit of sweetness than a b-wine to me. Nice!

Served from the tap with a deep mahogany brown color and a thin creamy white head. The aroma had a berry-like malt sweetness up front with some earthy hops beneath. The flavor is more satisfying, with a smooth combination of earthy, herbal hops and a rich caramel malt sweetness. The beer seems fairly lightly carbonated, which helps to let the flavors out a bit, but it also makes the alcohol content of this one more noticeable.
