estoppel (1014), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 24, 2008 On draft at the brewpub. Aroma of caramel malts and American hops, dark amber body, small whitish head. Nicely balanced between hop flavors/bitterness and sweet malts. Nicely done.
elihapa (232), Hawaii, USA Jul 7, 2008 On tap, Koko Marina. Poured a beautiful amber brown. Smelled of wood, malt, and nuts. Initial flavor is fairly sweet, with some dark fruit that perfectly balances the sweet malt. Flavor then rounds out with a nuttiness and firm malt backbone, without getting too sweet or alcoholic. A really well balanced and complex brew, this really ranked among the best barley wines I’ve tried! CaptainCougar (4625), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 28, 2007 2005 vintage on tap at the 2007 GABF: Transparent mahogany with a wispy-lacing tan head. Aroma of nice fresh, grapefruity hops and sweet caramel malt. Full, sweet body has some light fruity esters and complexity and bittering hops toward a drier bittersweet finish. A pretty nice barleywine. goldtwins (3721), Nesconset, New York, USA Oct 31, 2007 GABF 2007: Poured a hazy copper color with an off-white head. Dark fruit aroma that was semi-sweet. The flavor was of browned apples and dark fruits. Some figs. Medium to full body and semi-dry. kp (6200), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Oct 21, 2007 Date: 10/13/2007
