arondee (176), Tucson, Arizona, USA Nov 9, 2009 Pours jet black with a small toffee colored head and a moderate amount of carbonation. Aroma is coffee and malt. The taste is pure coffee, I’ve said that beers tasted like coffee before but this beer is something else. I’m actually surprised not to find coffee grinds in my teeth after taking each sip. I almost feel like it should be drunk hot. It’s an interesting brew but not easy (at least for me) to have more than 1 in a session. tekhna (100), California, USA Nov 8, 2009 Well, it’s a coffee porter. It’s about as subtle as getting hit upside the head, but I sort of like that sometimes. This is what the Brooklyn Intensified Coffee Stout could have been if it weren’t so thin, dry and buzzsawingly overcarbed. Well, and the ABV difference. PrinceofNessus (234), Westminster, Colorado, USA Nov 7, 2009 This beer pours a brown color with a thin head. The aroma has strong notes of coffee. The flavor and palate are a bit thin, although the taste is slightly sweet with a nice hint of coffee. There are some nice malt notes before the beer finishes out. rampmaster (316), Alden, New York, USA Nov 6, 2009 Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has a bottled on date of “091009” notched on to it and I sampled it on 11-6-09.
Appearance: It pours quite dark with a brown/black color and an average size tan head. The head hangs on well and make nice slippery lace on the glass.
Smell: The aroma is sweet like brown sugar with some roasted and toasted notes as well. Hop notes are very light and subdued.
Taste/Palate: Its flavor has mellow hints of brown sugar, roasted barley, burnt wood, and roasted coffee with cream. The finish comes quickly with some mellow spicy hops and solid dark roasted coffee notes fading off the tongue. It is a light to medium body porter with a creamy texture and lively carbonation.
Notes: This is a very tasty very sweet and easy drinking stout that would make a great session beer or breakfast beer.
pantanap (1323), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 6, 2009 12oz bottle that has been sitting around for lord knows how long.... pours a semi-thin dark brown pour with lighter edges. head was wispy and very thin.... aroma of coffee, roasted malt, and some added nutty notes.... semi-sweet flavor of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. somewhat thin overall in texture and mouthfeel. light carbonation. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Nov 5, 2009 [Tap] Pours an opaque brown color with a chestnut colored head. Roasted aroma of coffee and cocoa. Taste is quite sweet, with milk chocolate, mocha and light spices. Creamy mouthfeel reminded my in some ways of a milk stout. Roasted dark malts finish it off. I’d say palate is pretty average for a porter. Overall I did enjoy this beer quite a bit. Too bad it’s so $$$ where I live. dyetube (397), Dallas, Texas, USA Nov 3, 2009 This beer pours black with a thin tan head. The aromas are dark chocolate and dark roasted coffee. The flavors are slightly burnt dark coffee with a little dark chocolate. This was kind of a let down for me, but fairly drinkable. Cheers! j12601 (1153), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Nov 3, 2009 Bottle courtesy of daknole that’s been kicking around the cellar for far too long probably. Pours a dark cola black with a medium sized light tan head. Looks a bit watery as it pours. Roast, slightly astringent coffee, hint of smoke. On the thin side of medium, lightly sweet with a touch of coffee, but not a lot else. A bit empty. Finishes up with a dry bitterness.
