3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle-thanks to Ernest for this somewhat rare Hawaii brew. pours cola brown (yes, it looks like a glass of coke) with a small off-white/beige head. java and light dark chocolate on the nose, but mostly dominated by a java-extract like note. Even though it smells somewhat extract-like, its fairly pleasant. flavors are where it falls appart-lots of artificial coffe flavors with some plastic-like malt profile. body is really fizzy with lots of astringent carbonation. i dont know why this is this well rated.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of toasted malt and coffee, possibly a hint of chocolate. Dark, nearly opaque, brown color with a vigorous tan head. Starts with smooth coffee, swishing shows medium mouthfeel. Some bitterness rises along with toast. If thereís chocolate, itís pretty submerged in the malt and coffee. Really different porter.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Better fresh and crisp, this one has bits of smokey roast, and other dark roasty coffee flavors that hinge well with dark malt roast flavors. All is on the deep and dark without much body or lighter malt notes besides what Iíd describe as faint honey or even honeydew. The finish is fairly crispy and sharp with a bit of roasty tannins. As I mentioned at ffirst, fresh is best. The crispness fails if itís left around much and other off-flvaors can creep in. Good but fragile.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Chestnut-hued ebony. Creamy beige head holds fairly well. Aroma features notes of tar, smoky java, roasted malt, charcoal, and burnt caramel. Slightly metallic and hints of soy sauce. Obviously-forced carbonation immediately collapses on the palate. Fluffy and beefy java inundates the taste buds, though it deposits a vegetal limpness as well as some background papery elements. The sharper, more-defined malts give way to a flabby roasted-grain foundation, which is all that remains. The center is quite hollow and entirely devoid of malt depth, and the prevalent tingle of coffee-derived acidity only lessens the malt sweetness. Some grit is imparted by the deeper roast, but the flabbiness keeps it from taking foothold. Finishes extremely wet and flabby, with a metallic-tinged coffee element lingering alongside unsweetened chocolate. Itís imperative that a coffee beer has a solid base beer to work with. Take away the coffee in this, and youíre left with a rather rudimentary porter with a terribly artificial mouthfeel.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
I get almost complete black colour on this with a small head that almost immediatly faded. Not much of an aroma until it warmed a bit, and then it ended up with a mostly black coffee aroma with some toasted notes. The flavour is cloying with more coffee and some chocolate as well. There really isnít much s far as hops and other flavours go. This is a nice feeling beer, however. Often times I feel that porters are too thin for my liking, and this one is just right.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Aroma was like fresh brewed coffee, with a smoked aroma detectable. Flavor had a medium sweet coco malt that was smooth on the palate. Mild lingering coffee aftertaste.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle courtesy of SDbruboy, thanks again Cliff! Pours a dark reddish brown...kind of translucent with a somewhat creamy light tan head that fades to a nice film. The aroma is pretty big, lots of roasted malt and coffee, some chocolate, a bit of hazlenut, and a tinge of caramel. The flavor holds some of the aromas elements: roasted malt, nuts, coffee, and some elements of milk chocolate, some ash, and some light fruitiness...though they all seem kinda of light except for the heavy hit of coffee and roasted malt. The mouthfeel is smooth with rich elements without ever becoming thick...in fact this beer feels more like it has a medium body to it. A nice mix of roasty, sweet, sour, and bitter with a roasty/dry finish. Even though the coffee elements are a bit over the top, I still enjoyed sipping on this one during this chilly December evening. Neat stuff that really kinda goes balls out.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Collins Pub. Pours clear dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma and taste of coffee, nuts, chocolate, roasty malt. Almost-dry finish with a touch of sourness. From the aroma and the taste itís pretty clear that this part porter, part cuppa joe - which has itís up and down sides. Iím used to the coffee-like flavor in many dark beers, but the real taste of coffee is almost jarring in this case, and kind of fights with the porter a bit.
