Pipeline Porter is smooth and dark with a distinctive roasty aroma and earthy complexity from its diverse blends of premium malted barley. This celebration of malt unites with freshly roasted 100% Kona coffee grown at Cornwell Estate on Hawaii’s Big Island, lending a unique roasted aroma and flavor. Pours an opaque dark brown-black, with light tan head that quickly dissipates. Some lacing of the beer, but not too viscous. Smell is of coffee, but more sweet than burnt. Beer tastes mainly of coffee, with some roasted malt in the background. Other flavors such as chocolate and caramel are also present but way in the background. It’s the coffeeness of this beer that takes center stage. Some flavor of alcohol in the aftertaste, but not too overpowering. Palate is very pleasant, with thickness appropriate for a porter. Has a creaminess with some slight accompanying effervescence. Overall, this may be one of the best coffee-based beers I’ve ever tried (and I’ve had many). Credit goes to the porter, which doesn’t have the burnt taste that can mar some coffee-flavored beers. Excellent beer.

Pours a deep dark brown from a bottle. Surprisingly, the nose is full of roasted coffee. Flavor is similar, some chocolate malt. Quite thin in the mouth. Okay beer.

Bottle. Pitch black with a mostly fading coffee brown head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, nuts. Taste also of coffee and dark chocolate, hints of sweet caramel on the finish. Light, smooth oily mouthfeel. Soft to medium carbonation.

Slightly chocolate and a small coffee flavor. The Porter side is better, a lighter version of some of the heavy ones or there.

I only tried this once at a 4th of July party...traded a friend one of my Wailua’s for a Pipeline. After the sample, I wanted to buy a 6-pack for further review as I liked it a lot for a porter. Maybe a little bit too much coffee flavor for my preference, but that is the theme they were going with. Other flavors of malts, little bit of hops but nothing on the overly bitter end. Actually very well balanced between the sweets and hops. Very dark brown, near black color with medium carbonation but a light head. Almost a year later and still haven’t bought that 6-pack, but sooner or later I will.

Dark brown but light does pass through. Small head, but it leaves a pleasant interweave of lace after each sip. Chalky coffee nose with a background spice similar to oregano. Very dry. The flavor is strong (read: harsh) on the black patent malt, meaning strong black coffee taste. There’s no sweetness or creaminess. The aftertaste is short lived. Good body that fits the style.

One of Kona’s best "seasonal" beers. Pours dark and with a brown head. If you like coffee you will love this beer. medium bitterness with a lighter aftertaste.

Small light brown head; the beer itself is very dark brown. Aromas of roasted coffee; hops are quite subdued. Medium to full body; slightly oily texture; average to lively carbonation. Finish is average to long with coffee bitterness and flavors. Moderate sweetness and acidity. Overall I really like the coffee flavors, though the beer per se is just a tad on the thin side.

The coffee forward taste is there. Dark roast forward. Not unique. Straight forward coffee. Bitter melts away quickly. Sour left. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours black. Aroma and taste are coffee, some roasted malts, and chocolate.
