COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pipeline Porter is smooth and dark with a distinctive roasty aroma and earthy complexity from its diverse blends of premium malted barley. This celebration of malt unites with freshly roasted 100% Kona coffee grown at Cornwell Estate on Hawaii’s Big Island, lending a unique roasted aroma and flavor. A delicate blend of hops rounds out this palate-pleasing brew.

Pours the color of coffee. Nose is a bit flat, which disappoints as nothing tops the aroma of freshly brewed coffee for me. What malt background I detect is lightly roasted but there are no burnt notes. Caramel is dominant. Coffee is very prominent flavor-wise, however, but doesn’t overwhelm. It allows for some chocolate and bitter complements. Mouthfeel is superb and satiny. This is a session porter if ever there was one. Finishes dry, without much residual sugar, but with plenty of lingering coffee flavor. Coffee takes center-stage with little malt flair but the beer is not flat and the flavor places this amongst the top of coffee beers, properly behind Founders, Dogifsh Head, and New Glarus and well ahead of Lost Coast’s regrettable Java Brown.

Slightly chocolate and a small coffee flavor. The Porter side is better, a lighter version of some of the heavy ones or there.

I only tried this once at a 4th of July party...traded a friend one of my Wailua’s for a Pipeline. After the sample, I wanted to buy a 6-pack for further review as I liked it a lot for a porter. Maybe a little bit too much coffee flavor for my preference, but that is the theme they were going with. Other flavors of malts, little bit of hops but nothing on the overly bitter end. Actually very well balanced between the sweets and hops. Very dark brown, near black color with medium carbonation but a light head. Almost a year later and still haven’t bought that 6-pack, but sooner or later I will.

Dark brown but light does pass through. Small head, but it leaves a pleasant interweave of lace after each sip. Chalky coffee nose with a background spice similar to oregano. Very dry. The flavor is strong (read: harsh) on the black patent malt, meaning strong black coffee taste. There’s no sweetness or creaminess. The aftertaste is short lived. Good body that fits the style.

One of Kona’s best "seasonal" beers. Pours dark and with a brown head. If you like coffee you will love this beer. medium bitterness with a lighter aftertaste.

Small light brown head; the beer itself is very dark brown. Aromas of roasted coffee; hops are quite subdued. Medium to full body; slightly oily texture; average to lively carbonation. Finish is average to long with coffee bitterness and flavors. Moderate sweetness and acidity. Overall I really like the coffee flavors, though the beer per se is just a tad on the thin side.

The coffee forward taste is there. Dark roast forward. Not unique. Straight forward coffee. Bitter melts away quickly. Sour left. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle into wine glass. Park Rapids, MN. Bottle from Sept 2012. Pours dark brown no head. Aroma is nice, coffee, dark malts, etc. slightly sweet. Weak body. Has not held up well.

12 oz. bottle from notes. Pours dark brown in color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts and quite a bit of kona coffee and some mocha, hints of dark chocolate, the only negative is the body is thin and comes off a bit watery.

from Drinks of the World, Bern - black beer with a chaotic and poor foam left; roasted aroma of coffee and black cherries; medium-bodied, bitter and light astringent; pretty dry and long coffeish aftertaste - well-made
