COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor’s Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2010 6-pack from some shack on the North Shore of O’ahu. Pours a clear golden with a small fizzy head. Aroma of pale malt, sour, white grapes, smells very much like a pinot grigio, light skunkiness. Flavor follows, crisp and easy drinking, but with a white wine sour funk, some light graininess. Clean body, fizzy soda carbonation. This is fairly refreshing on a hot day, only problem is I realized it was skunking in the sun as I was drinking it from glasses... the flavor is much much cleaner before the sun gets it.

For its category I feel this is an excellent beverage. I nice slight sour wheat taste with the wonderful flavor of Passion Fruit, which I find quite unique. its really a nice light summer beer with a delicious flavor. It does have a light head, but I appreciate that in a nice summer beer. Very pleasing to the palate, and delicious with a nicely grilled fish taco with mahi-mahi, and some nice tropical fruits.

Straw ale with minimal head and slight fruity aromas. Tart and bitter with a thin mouthfeel.

Watery mouthfeel, lots of passion fruit, not much else really. I would think some more hop and a kilt more body would improve this brew.

355 ml bottle. From Spokane, WA, USA.
Clear pale golden colour with small white head. Mild fruits, stale malt and hints of hops in aroma. Malt and some sweet fruits in flavour with hints of hops. Fruity aftertaste. I couldn’t say if it’s passion fruit or some other fruit in aroma and flavour. Wheat I couldn’t find at all, more like Lager. Not very interesting beer I’m afraid.

Refreshing and sweet summer wheat. Passionfruit is very powerful in this one. Good crisp wheat.

12 oz bottle from Safeway Salinas. Nose mildly fruity with the passion fruit and a hint of banana and a little grassiness in the background probably from the hops. Lightly hazy yellow with a small pale yellow head. Flavor is passion fruit up front with some light sweetness.

Aroma was citrus with some hay notes. Appearance was the palest yellow I’ve ever seen in a beer, no head. Taste was mix of alcohol and sour flavors with a bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is extremely watery and thin. Overall probably one of the five worst beers I’ve ever had. They should have limited the release even more.
