Commercial Description:
Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor's Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

12 oz bottle generously shared by Dansting. Pour is a hazy white yellow. Smallish white head. Aroma of celery salt, body odor, and weird vegetables. Real bad nose. Taste is wheaty, citrus lime, passion fruit and some yeastiness. Taste is actually quite pleasant, which was a bit of a shock after the nose. Palate is clean and short. Thanks for bringing this one back stateside, Dan.

Bottle, bottled on 6/2/08. Pours a light yellow with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, slightly fruity, some faint wheat notes in the background. Flavor is initially sweet and fruity, lots of mango and grapefruit, with a wheat finish. Interesting and actually pretty tasty. The passion fruit really meshes well with the wheat backbone, this does NOT just taste like fruit juice! Nice beer and rather underrated, in my opinion.

Bottle, bottled 6/2/08. Aroma first of wheat, lemon, other citrus, and only then does the passion fruit come forward as a compliment to the base wheat notes. Flavor a little fruitier, but seemingly both from the wheat base and the added fruit. Sweet but clean, refreshing, interesting, and frankly quite tasty.

I really thought there would be a better, more sweet fruity flavor to this. Unfortunately no... and it took a bit to get used to the sort of bitter, ick aftertaste of the passion fruit. After I got used to it, it wasn’t terrible, but certainly wasn’t anything special- especially not for a limited release.

From a bottle poured a hazy pinkish color with a fair amount of head. Nice fruity flavor with a quick finish.

Pours like pineapple juice with a pillowy white head. Plenty of passion fruit on the nose the escalates in the flavor. Strange, yet refreshing--almost like a beer smoothie.

Bottle pours golden with a white head. Has a fruity aroma with a malt wheat presence. Mouthfeel is medium light with a lot of carbonation. Taste is upfront wheat and finishes with passion fruit flavors. Overall this isn’t too bad of a beer, but it isn’t that great either. This is just average to below average.
