COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor’s Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

Bottle. Poured a cloudy pale yellow with a small white fizzy head that was fully diminishing and had poor lacing. The aroma was super light of grain malts, a light moldy yeast with just a hint of citrus and passion fruit. It tasted light and sweet with a mild wheat note in the beginning and finished about the same with a mild taste of passion fruit at the end. Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with an extremely soft carbonation. Overall almost like drinking flavored bottled water. Good thing it’s a Limited Release.

Another wheat beer with a low ranking, I am shocked. I guess I am in the minority here. Color is fine. Aroma is mild but you can smell some acidic fruit notes. A multi-layered beer to me. First fruit, then some mild tartness then the wheat makes an appearance at the end.

Bottle. Pour is hazy gold. Pale malts and a very mild bitterness. Boring wheat beer were it not for the amazing passion fruit undertones. I’d drink it again given the chance.

Yellowish gold, nose of wheat and passionfruit. Lots of passionfruit on the finish. A little weird, not bad, but not something I’d really go for normally. The passionfruit provides an odd fruity bitter flavor.

Pale straw with a thin head.
Lightly sweet bready and floral aromas.
Flavor is sweet citrusy lemon with a touch of wheat.

This is a perfect summer beer. A nice golden color, the Wailua Wheat has a subtle aroma of passion fruit to pair with light, citrusy hops. The passion fruit flavor is not overpowering, and is actually very light and refreshing. For a wheat ale, this beer is very flavorful, crisp, and refreshing.

Tap. Rating #434. Pale straw yellow pour with a small white head. Sweet bready aroma. Light bite, sweet light fruits, drinkable, but a little too sweet. (1759)

12oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottle on 4/25/11. Pours a clear, light golden straw color with one finger of light foam that quickly dissipates. Some carbonation is visible. Nose has a lot of bittersweet citrus notes along with grain aromas. Mouthfeel is appropriately light. Not enough carbonation but not heavy. Palate is quite sweet with a hint of grain and citrusy bitterness. Pretty refreshing and exotic. Not bad and a unique interpretation of the style but not good enough for me to really recommend.
