Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor’s Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

Clear gold pour with a thin, creamy white head. Aroma is citrus and tart passion fruit, fruity floral notes, floury wheat and sweet malt. Flavor is wheat, lemony citrus, toast, tart passion fruit, dishwater and light spice. Light body with a strong, blanketing carbonation and off dry, chalky feel. Decent stuff.

Bottle. LIght fruity wheat malt aroma. Hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Just like the nose, light fruity wheat malt flavor with an odd subtle bitterness in the finish. Light body, moderate carbonation.

Fizzy frothy medium white head; blonde body; Distinct passionfruit aroma, very nice. Also tastes like passionfruit, especially the finish. Very light, very mild hopping, like a PBR if PBR tasted good and was made with passionfruit.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2013 A golden Wheat brew with a light, hazey hue and a clean taste. Not at all bad, but nothing to its taste to really recommend it.

Pours amber with low white head. Aroma of light wheat, touches of honey and fruit. Not very distinct. Taste on the other hand is massively fruit sweet from start to finish. Very atypical for a wheat beer. Body is light and slick with soft carbonation.

12 oz. bottle poured to a 1/2 pint fest glass displaying a hazed, straw tone, with a fair amount of bubbly white head foam that reduced rather expeditiously to a ring & film, and left a band of light, ribbony lacing on the glass. The aroma was mildly sweet, with some tartness, and mainly presented tropical fruitiness that reminded me of berries, sweetened rhubarb, and orange peel. The flavor offered low bitterness, less estery expression than the nose, a bit of light grain, and some cidery nature. Light bodied, with lively, seltzery effervescence. Finished a little dry, but basically refreshing.

On tap at Pour House, slightly hazy golden color with lots of carbonation. Thin clearish head. Aromas and flavor are floral and fruitty wheat, passionfruit, lemon, grain, and hay. Light and refreshing, almost lager like. Not as bad as its rating imo.

Bottle provided by Kona for review. Pours a big fizzy head over a slightly darker than normal gold body. Plenty of bubbles, beer is pretty clear. Not much for me to smell, just a touch of tang (I don’t want to call it sourness, it’s not that strong) that hints at a bit of fruit in the mix, and 14.5 IBUs aren’t leaving a lot of hop to be noticed. Taste goes along with most American wheat styles. Just a light thread of the spicy syrup note that comes from a tropical fruit, so I’m not knocked over by too much fruit extract. Very decent on a hit summer day like this one.
