Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor’s Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2007 This draft brew from the Oregon Brewers festival poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was floral malty and dirty sock. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a hoppy aftertaste. The mild flavor contained notes of malt hops breads and wheat. A decent one but not one that I would consider buying again.

Bottle. Pours golden with a thin white head. Aroma is interesting, definitely tropical fruit smelling. I’m not too familiar with passion fruit, so I don’t know if that is it or not. Taste is more of that same fruit, some graininess. Not much of an aftertaste, light body. Very interesting brew.

Pour is a hazy yellow with a foamy white head. Aroma is sweet grain and a fruityness. Flavor is a bit fruity and some wheat but not much else. Like most have said, not terrible but othing great either. Also kinda pricy at $7.50 a six pack.

Tap. A mild to light wheat beer with a foggy yellow body and a very clean finish. A white bubbly head was there as well.

From a bottle our of a $6.90 six pack purchased in Ashland, Oregon this poured a clear golden yellow with a nice white head and minimal lacing. Nose of grainy and rich with citrus. Mouthfeel light but refreshing. Flavor somewhat sweet and not much finish. Refreshing to drink, however, and a decent wheat.

Bottle. Very clear and the faintest color of yellow imaginable. White wisps but no real head. Grainy and somewhat peppery aroma. Very grainy flavor with a tinge of fruitiness and a bit of spice. Very dry.

Pours clear and golden with a small, white, fizzy head which disappates quickly. Nose is strange; grains, a light fruity note and an offputting body odor note (maybe that’s how passion fruit smells?) Flavor is much of the same; grainy, lightly fruity, and the same offputting note. Palate is light, very lively, watery, and crisp. Finishes short with light fruit and a skunk note. Boring and a bit offputting. Not the best offering from this brewery.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2011 7/1/2007pale yellow pour...very light wheat aroma dominated by fruit. flavor is mostly passion fruit with wheat added. it’s a very interesting flavor since it is not fake or syrupy.

12oz bottle. Pale straw colored with a thin film of white head. Faint wheaty spice underneath a musky earthen passion fruit character in the aroma. Delicate wheat flavors barely peer through a dominant earthen citrus component. Somewhat grainy in the finish with acetic tones. Mouthfeel is very light, somewhat watery.

Another local beer I sampled on my trip to Hawaii. It was a somewhat cloudy gold with a very small, short-lived white head. The aroma was very wheaty, with some yeast, grainy hops, and malt; also light passion fruit tones. The taste was very sweet and wheaty, with some underlying sourness and really noticeable and good passion fruit flavoring. It was a wet and full beer with very low carbonation and fizzyness. Unique and interesting with the passion fruit touch, but still, a mostly unexciting beer.
