COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor’s Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

12 oz bottle: Pours a light gold with a fleeting thin white head. Aroma is dominated by peach and mango. The taste is less clear with some tropical fruit while this is sharp on the palate and almost too carbonated.

Pale gold, light white head and light lacing. Nose of musky, sweaty fermented fruit, underhopped and husky wheat. The flavor is thin, husky, light carbonation esters. The finish is husky too, spicy tart rotten fruit. Yum!

(bottle) pale gold with moderate white head. Strong aroma of passion fruit. Flavor is has some passion fruit, but (fortunately) not as prominent as in the aroma.

GreatLibations (1854) - Last Supper, Arizona, USA - JUN 10, 2007
Pours sightly hazed yellow w/ a short lived, medium sized, spritzy spattered froth. Residual lacing is minimal w/ a thin ring and a silky canopy. Aromas of heated rubber peach pits. Light nectar w/ ample residual effers. Flavors are crisp, clean, and refreshing w/ a defined passionfruit popsicle essence. Slight earthy citrus and biscuits. The finish is bittered nicely. Very dry and the flvors are some what muted, even after a little warming.

vyvvy (3949) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - JUN 8, 2007
Pours clear golden with a good amount of carbonation and a soapy off-white head. The aroma has clean wheat, light sweetness and hints of lemon and passion fruit. Medium / thin body with way too much carbonation. The flavor is a bit carboardy with some indistinguishable fruit (I assume it is from the passion fruit) and some graininess. Most of the flavors are then completely muted by an onslaught of carbonation. After that leaves there is a lingering spicy fruit taste. Fair beer.

12oz bottle. Filtered and golden. Tight ring of white head. Grainy nose. Musty fruit aromas. Limes and mangos. Light bodied with nice fruity notes. Easy drinking, but no real character.

12 oz bottle enjoyed in beautiful Hawaii. Part of a mixed six pack. Poured a medium yellow with a little bit of orange sunset. Sweetness on the toungue with a little wheat yeast ending. Refreshing. I could enjoy a few of these.

Tasted at the brewery in Kona. Strong tropical fruity flavors in a wheat beer. Sweet and even. Easy to drink in small doses. Good and appropriate for drinking in Hawaii.

12 oz bottle in Hawaii. Very fruity aromas. The Yeasty wheaty aromas that I expected were not there. More fruit on the flavor. Some Wheat twang, but mostly fruity. Not bad.

Very pale yellow with an orange tint. Disappointingly non-existant fizzy head. Nose opens with the standard tang of an american style wheat beer before opening into a significant amount of citrus. If you’ve ever sipped passion fruit juice, that flavor will be unmistakable, but I believe there’s a helping of some citrus hops backing this as well. If I were a bee, I’d be attracted to the perfumes of this one. The beer is on the light side of medium-bodied and is a little thin on the palate. It’s malty, dry, and crisp with a short, clean finish. The passion fruit reappears at the end. As flavored wheat beers go, you can do worse. This might be a good one for your anti-beer friends.
