Limited release. Swimming in a fresh water pool at the base of a cascading waterfall is what we all imagine we would find in paradise. On Maui, follow the old Hana Highway and you will find such a place – Wailua Falls. This plunging cascade of clear water is the inspiration for our Limited Release Wailua Wheat. This golden, sun colored ale has a bright, citrusy flavor that comes from the tropical passion fruit we brew into each batch. Sit back, relax and enjoy paradise anytime.

Editor’s Note: Lilikoi Wheat was renamed to Wailua Wheat (both on draft and in bottle).

Bottle poured a clear gold color with small white head. Aroma was a stange fruit with some hops and wheat. The taste was one of a kind with a funky pasion fruit flavor mixed with tart wheat malt.

Bottle pours a clear very pale yellow witha thin quick fizzy white head. After a moment it is gone and ther is no real lacing. Stale cereal and fruity apricot aroma. Pale light malts, a slight wheat and apricots and faint wheat notes. Dry somewhat chalky palate and a touch citrusy, leamon on the trailer. Pass.

Bottle from Henry’s. Pours medium golden in color. Aroma is slightly sweet with wheat and a bit of fruitiness. Flavor is fairly grainy with a little bit of a fruity flavor. Some bitterness as well. Fairly refreshing.

Bottle; Pours a wheaty yellow; with medium to small white head. Aroma was of wheat and alot of fruit (guessing passion fruit). To me this beer was pretty bland; normal american wheat style, with a passion fruit twist. Easy drinking, and a hint of malt. For the style, it was probably above average.

Bottle: Pours a yellow gold cloudy with a 1 finger white head. A little malt but mostly passion fruit in the aroma. The flavor was pretty much all passion fruit and peach like flavors. In one sense this beer should be highly rated for its really great and natural flavors yet it was very unbeerlike and reminded me of a mango margarita. Then again it went down extremely easy and i was surprised when i looked over and my glass was empty. Not much depth to this beer but if you like passion fruit you’ll probably love it.

Poured a golden wheat hue with a decent head. The nose was a bouquet of passion fruit, peaches and floral NW hops. Oddly, I don’t often opt for a fruity wheat beer but this was a huge exception. It was like Hawaiian paradise in a bottle.

Aroma of citrus and tropical fruit - could be passion fruit. Light brassy color with a white head that doesn’t last. Full mouthfeel. Starts with fruit, gets a burst of malt, falls into wheat, and finishes with a mouthful of passion fruit. Almost a herbal finish. Then the approx. 15 IBU comes out. You could say the hop balances the fruit. Not sure where the malt went. Interesting and very refreshing.

Draft at the brewpub 11/2/2006. Like described a unique hefe. Aroma is mild and fairly typical for the style, as is the appearance. All goes to spec until you taste it. The flavor is not overwhelming but has interesting sweet and sour notes, citrusy fruit is evident, and it is slightly bitter. Fairly light bodied, crisp and tart in the mouth.

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2008 Though not reflected in my score, this beer gets points for being unique and the embodiment of Hawai’i. This beer somehow manages to integrate the sensuous flavor of liliko’i. Somewhat sweet with a bit of sourness. The fruit is evident in both the aroma and the taste. Definitely give it a try. it’s light and fruity to be sure, but a one-of-a-kind experience nonetheless.

Draft at brewery: Hazy gold hue. Light body; decent carbonation. Pale malts and a very mild bitterness. Nice elements/aromas of tea, soda, lemon, flowers, and passion fruit. Pinch of tartness. Light and refreshing "tropical" beer. Boring and predictable in some ways, but it had some interesting things going on, and it was made pretty well (i.e., no major off-flavors).
