COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A bottom-fermented dark beer speciality, which is manufactured in traditional Bavarian brewing procedure.

Excellent dunkel overall. Poured a dark brown with a good frothy head. Malty and medium sweetness. Thick and heavy, with a long solid finish. Really liked this dunkel! One of the best i have found in Germany.

Into a tulip, chilled. Russet brown, bright and shimmering with an inch of steady off-white foam atop. Nutty, dusty, lumber and cereal-like nose; minerally with a hefty note of pumpernickel, saw-dust, oat cake and roggenbrot. Bready, nutty on the palate, dry in the back with a solid roasted grain base. Specks of cocoa, roasted almond and peanut, roggenbrot, kelp with light tanninf and a low key hint of rust. Moderate carbonation elevates it; the body medium light and holding as it warms. Well balanced and pleasant. A nice Dunkel. (50cL, BB 20/05/15, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Una dunkel tedesca in tutti i suoi aspetti. Ottima all’aroma e all’aspetto, perde al palato e al gusto, ma in generale è una buona birra

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2014 Bottle. Pours clear amber with two finger beige head. Aroma is caramel, brown sugar and malty bread. Slight fruity estere. Taste is caramel and malts. Watery mouthfeel, but crisp finish though. Some burnt sugar in the ending too.

This was too sweet for my tastes for a dunkel. It didn’t have much body, could have been more assertive too. I’d drink it if you handed it to me, but I won’t be paying for another.

Dark translucent red-brown bayer from Bayern. Sweet smell of baking and botany, but a bit too discret and not characteristic enough to get carried away by. The taste contains some soy, a lot of caramel and nutty notes. Not bad! Creamy mouth feel, slightly sticky in an ok way. I like this more than it deserves, if that makes sense.

Clear, brown with huge light tan head. Malty, bready aroma. Flavour has malt and caramel, smooth and sweetish mouthfeel.

(Bottle) from Kaiser’s supermarket in Berlin. A dark beer with hints of sourness and caramel, slightly sweet but with a rich flavor. Very little in the way of hops, and only a subtle roast. Normally I don’t like beers that are this rich and caramelly and lower in hops, but I thought this was complex...the slight roastiness balances well with the caramel malt and the flavor itself is complex, with an interplay of mild sweetness, bitterness, and sour flavors. Very enjoyable and interesting. Would not drink regularly in quantity, but an excellent beer to throw in the mix for a change of pace.

Bottle. Clear mid brown with a puffy off-white head. Aroma of sticky bread crusts, hints of prunes, very mild spices. Moderately sweet with toasty caramel, a little fruit, low bitterness, mild spices. A little watery and fairly plain, but pleasant enough.
