A bottom-fermented dark beer speciality, which is manufactured in traditional Bavarian brewing procedure.

Color of brown clear caramel and a decent top. First reaction for smell was marzipan, perhaps caramel and hops after. Also the taste is not far from the noseing impression, nice, slightly sweet bitter hops and mostly caramel what this is about. Nice light-sided beer.

Had this in Berlin. It pours dark brown with an off white head. It has nutty aroma with hints of chocolate aND a hint of floral. The floral component comes out more in the flavor but the roast and chocolate are still dominate.

Aroma: Medium-light toast, caramel, light roasted, rye hint, banana, Munich malt. As it warms up, light chocolate. Appearance: Brilliant, brown body. Small, light-brown head. Large brown. Fair retention. Flavour: Medium Munich malt, caramel and light rye. Medium-light, balancing bitterness. Medium-light chocolate. Medium-light dry finish with lingering Munich, light licorice. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Overall: Complex, but still easy drinking. Enjoyable and something you can drink in volumes, or sip slowly. 500 ml bottle, poured. 8A. Munich Dunkel

Copenhagen 18/9 2016. 50 cl bottle from Meny. Black (of course) label with both two roaring lions, a giant heraldic shield and a idyllic looking small German town. In gold. Pours dark reddish brown with white head. Settles as 0,5 cm thick layer of foam. Moderate lacing. Aroma is not very strong but of brown sugar, roasted malts, cocoa and caramel. Fairly sweet. Medium carbonation and slightly thick palate. Flavor is well balanced between medium sweetness and medium bitterness. Bitterness lingering in the aftertaste. Nice enough dunkel without being outstanding.

Standard schwarzbier. I had high hopes for this, but it drinks like any other plain black beer the tender could pull out at the bar. Aroma is mild and inoffensive, the colour a bit like dirty dish water. Very little dark malt taste of any kind, and a bit strangely sweet. Meh... All round

A decent dunkel, I would say average for the style. It has low carbonation and not a ton of flavour, but nothing off. Bottle in Munich. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
