3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aus der flasche @ Hotel Am Wehrhahn, Düsseldorf, Germany.
Damn thirsty after the train-ride from Köln. The hotel was a good mile from the Hauptbahnhof and our packs were now five-times their original weight. Cracked into this one straight away for breakfast - a balanced meal in liquid form. Poured into a glass mug. Big, messed-up, chunky white crown topped its sparkling, medium gold body. Head held well, due to the in-flux of fine, tight bubbles, and laced networks down the glass. A hint of fresh celery and damp grass blends with cracked pepper and toasted malt on the nose, very clean and cut. Quite frothy in the mouth. Dusty, fresh cracked grains and toasted malt give it a solid base. Sour malt and hops in back, Noble hop herbal spice and earthiness shows on the peak before a bitter end that shows little length. It is crisp and clean, slowly showing signs of sweetening as it warms but who would let it get to that stage. A firm mouthfeel, yet the body is light enough to be knocked back all Summer long. A no-nonsense Pilsner. Simple, balanced and tasty. (50cL, 29/12/06 [tried in June ’06])

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
0.5l bottle (damn overpriced at little less than 3 Euros) at a store in Split. Poured a yellow coloured body (maybe light light gold), with a big fluffy head that went away fast. Very lively carbonation at first, but that dies out fast. The nose is typical for the style, but more pleasant than most, nice clean maltiness and hops and some dusty notes. A nice, but not completely appealing hoppy bitterness surrounds a pleasant sweet malty body, slick and smooth, quite drinkable, long chewy hoppy bitter aftertaste. A good, solid German pils.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2007 Premium pilsener alright. Everything is pretty much in place here, nice refreshing mouth feel and taste. Re-rate: As this is on tap at Kaisla (Helsinki, Finland), it’s pretty much "the closest I can get to Ruhrgebiet" in Finland. I have to say I’ve grown pretty fond of it and it’s beautiful hoppiness, which only germans are capable of. Still, I feel it was smoother and hoppier "vom faß" back at Ruhrgebiet.

Bottle - carton on special at local. As far as "Euro pils" go - this is better than average. Looks the goods and has a an appreciable flavour missing from certainly the euro lagers brewed under license here in Australia. Decent summer bbq thirst quencher!

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Golden lager, medium head. Grassy/bready cerealic aroma. It begins with pure malts which are quickly followed by good hops shades. Good balance. Medium carbonation.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: NOV 21, 2006 All the rage around these parts it seems. Vintage Cellars have this on special but I do recall it being available in some pubs on tap a long time ago. I think there should be a generic category called Euro pils because this style proliferates. As a beer it is on par with some of the better and more accessible beers of its ilk, and as such is not a bad representative. Pale hue with creamy head, tick. Grassy aroma with a slight hop whiff, tick. Citric and grassy finish with reasonable mouthfeel, tick. Ya, is gutt, but certainly not a regal brew.
