UPDATED: SEP 29, 2013 I can remember drinking König Pils as a kid in Germany. There was a chain of pubs around the country called "König City" which featured this beer. And you know, it was pretty tasty. But nowadays, it tastes like a watered down Pils with low bitterness, no hop aroma and very little body. I mean, they even admit to an original gravity of 11.3°Plato which is just a joke. Too bad really, but this is a general trend in Germany and there is no hope in sight. Clean, drinkable, but totally boring. How do you make a low quality beer, but still follow the German Purity Law of 1516? Just use less of everything.

Bottle shared on the train from Nuremberg to Freising during day 3 of the Bamberg Jolly of January 2015. Pours perfectly clear pale yellow with a frothy, white head. Nice and drinkable, with sugary pale cereal, biscuits, mellow bitter straw. Light bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, simple, with lightly toasted cereal, hay. Nice one.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 5D). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 07:01. AROMA: medium-low grainy-sweet aroma with a faint herbal hop presence on the background. APPEARANCE: straw color and translucent. small moussy white head with poor retention. TASTE: moderate grainy-sweet flavour with slight herbal hop notes. medium bitterness and a semi-dry and bitter aftertaste. PALATE: medium-light body with moderate-low carbonation. OVERALL: an average comercial german pils with less hop intensity.

Bottle from Jumbo supermarket, Portimao, Portugal. Pale straw coloured with a sweet malty and grassy flavour with gentle floral fruity notes on the smooth vanilla finish.

Quite bitter clear golden Tv pilsener from Duisburg. Ordinary straw or grass notes. Yeasty taste and above mentioned. For me the stereotype of a german Television beer...

33 cl, bottled. BB 23.06.2016. Pours clear gold with a decent white head. Pleasant bubbles. Aroma: Malt, grains. Taste: Medium sweet, pleasant notable bitterness. Grains in flavour with some notes of grass. Palate: Near medium body, pleasantly dry. Average carbonation. Quite typical German pilsner. Clean, I like it.

Flasche und Fass. Goldgelb, schöner Schaum. Das wars dann aber auch schon mit Positivem. Metallischer herber Geruch. Wenig aromatischer herber Geschmack. Kein gutes Bier.

Vom Fass aus der Flasche Hell- bis goldgelb schwacher Schaum, Geruch leicht malzig, Geschmack flach wenig herb leicht süßlich, warum das "KöPi" im Pott so beliebt is is mir ein Rätsel

330 ml bottle into lager glass, best before 7/28/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden straw color with a small dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of big cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, biscuit, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Awesome robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Large amount of dryness after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast ester notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky/grainy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is an awesome German pilsner style. All around great robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and clean to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.
