The world’s first and only Trappist white ale that continues to ferment slightly after bottling. Brewed using only water, wheat, and hops. No herbs are added. Saphir hops give the ale its citrusy aroma. A real thirst-quencher on a hot summer’s day that also makes for a delicious drink at any other time of the year.

Bottle, 33 cl. Light hazy golden beer with medium white head. Aroma is grainy, with a touch of citrus as well. Taste is nicely grainy, with a malty background, light sweetness noticeable, as well as the citrus, but is a bit too flat in general to excel.

(Old BA rate - bottle) Pours with a generous two finger of fizzier foamy pure white head that didn’t have great retention but wasn’t bad; lightly cloudy golden yellow-orange hue Yeasty; green grape skins; little hint of sweetness; hint of vanilla and light spiciness; touch of citrus as well. Pretty basic, but some nice enough things going on. Taste is a little more enticing than the aroma with a citric bite that hits first and then a vanilla and light fruitiness comes through the most. Nice touches of spice and a little yeasty, and everything is on par for the style and pretty clean. The MF is definitely light overall, and the carbonation is actually really, really vibrant and this was almost a turnoff for me in the drinkability side of things. That being said, still a really nice example of the style, traditional and good.

Bottle from Csakajosor.hu. Poured honey-yellow with a creamy, white, lacing foam. Coriander, citrus, pine, honey, malts, yeast and some hints of cantaloupe. Hazy, dense body that is somewhat oily and serves a matching medium carbonation. Sweet taste with a well balanced dryish aftertaste, with some hops on the palate. Very nice brew for a summer day!

Labeled as La Trappe Witte Trappist. Pours faintly golden colour with a medium quick-settling head. Wheaty, citrusy smell. Dry and fizzly mouthfeel as a first impression, but smoother baseline can be found soon. Wheaty and dry malty aromas creates the frames for the sense of taste. A kick of flowery hops gives some edge while mild yeasty aromas struggle to keep feet on the ground. All this, however, combine to a satisfying mixture of harmony giving the drinker in a convivial state of mind.

Good solid witte, well balanced. Fruity and mildly sweet, with a lively carbonation to leave the tongue tingling and guessing as to its multiple dimensions. Good finish. Very enjoyable. Bottle in Den Haag.
