4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330ml bottle from XO Cellars in Noosa Junction. Poors dark with nice creamy head and lovely fruity aroma. You can really taste the Nelson Sauvin hops and just the right malt backbone making this such a smooth and easy to drink Black IPA. Nice bitterness on the palate that lingers and creeps up on you. Great beer and quite possibly Kooindas best.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330mL bottle. Pours opaque black with a thick off-white head that never diminished. Faint aroma of chocolate and resinous hops. Coffee and chocolate in the flavour, a little wood, not very hoppy, medium bitterness, mild sweetness. Medium body, soft carbonation and a lingering woody finish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Great beer. Seems to me to have a maltier backing than most BIPA, and it’s a welcome observation, as far as I’m concerned. Theres the usual fruitburst aroma that is part and parcel for Nelson Sauvin hops, and then the wonderful chocolatey, velvet backbone with lashings of hops and sweet fruit.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (33cl) at Tipplers Tap, Brisbane, August 2014. Black with a tan head. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, grapefruit, dark chocolate and coffee. The finish was rather bitter. A descent one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma dominated by burnt malt toffee character. Great black opaque colour topped by good creamy lasting head. Taste is dominated by black beer burnt character. Palate is clean with some residual burnt malt at back of mouth that dissipates quickly. Overall a pleasant black beer, but not much of the hops advertised in IPA name. Possibly a little too much of burnt character without a lot of other depth of flavour.

Bottle. Aromas of espresso, spicy hops. Jet-black with a thick, creamy tan head. Lively carbonation, sticky body with quite a bit of sediment apparent. Flavours of prunes, soy sauce, a hint of treacle. Savoured this one- a very nice black beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Murky dark brown appearance with a solid tan head. There is an initial woody taste with burnt coffee and dark malt flavours. Progress into dark fruits and grapefruit and finishes with some citrus and resin. A dry, strong hop finish. Very nice

Fare thee well Josh tasting at Bruce’s. Thanks to Colin and big Dave. Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Light dry dark malt bearing.a good coffee streak. Mild dark fruits, tangy. Spot of lactose. Bitterish finish. Okay but could do with more hop flavour.

Bottle shared at Josh’s Farewell Hoorah - thanks to Wingmanwillis for plundering this one for me, 20/02/14.
Murky dark mahogony brown with a moderate light tan swirl atop the glass.
Nose is earthy, dank hops, light cocoa, jammy berry fruits, spice, light roast.
Taste comprises light dirt, touch of tropicals, cocoa, bitter grapefruit, earthy.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi dry close.
So so CDA, pretty basic.
