3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 mkel07 (2340) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - MAR 10, 2012
On tap at Archive. Dull red to copper colour with a small white head. Aroma had some sweetness to it but not a lot else, same goes with the flavour. All round it was okay.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hawthorne00 (1853) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 20, 2012
Bottle, 10C. Labelled English Red Ale. Red brown with a frothy light beige head. Aroma of caramel, boiled sweets, earth, some fruity tartness. Taste is sweet with light earthy bitterness and a touch tangy (deliberate or not it works OK). Toffee, some chocolate, cherry vinegar, peppery at the end. Not really my sort of thing and could use just a little more oomph, but quite intriguing.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 davidm (1772) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAR 23, 2012
On tap at Josie Bones. It has nice malt and yeast character. Aroma of nuts, grain, cherries, with hints of green apple. Taste is sweet, with sour notes, and average length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Red, with a lacey frothy head.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 maneliquor (1551) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAR 3, 2013
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours chestnut brown with a small yellow head. Nose is very pronounced toffee and citrus hops. Quite toffee and biscuit forward in the taste with citrus throughout and a nice dose of hoppy bitterness to finish it off. Solid stuff
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Davros (1473) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 26, 2012
Pours coppery brown with a large, off-white head.
Nose shows creamy, nutty malt. Very little else.
Flavours include bready, toasty malt. Again, not particularly interesting.
Carbonation seems a little over the top.
Nothing wrong with, just not really captivating in any way.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 jmgreenuk (1271) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - FEB 6, 2013
Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear deep reddish brown with a broken white head. The aroma is malty but very weak. The flavour is is medium bitter, malty and a little metallic. The flavour lacks body and diverse flavours. I’m not sure where the concept of an English Red comes from. I’m not aware of anyone in England brewing one and the Irish examples are mediocre too.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 bluebetty (1019) - AUSTRALIA - SEP 16, 2012
Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark brown. Small tan coloured head that falls away pretty quickly. Aromas are dominated by nutty sweet caramel. Not much else going on. Flavours are sweet with some nutty bitterness to finish. A little ho hum to be honest.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Maris (745) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - SEP 7, 2012
From a 330ml bottle on 8/9/2012. Pours a very cloudy red-brown with lots of yeast floaties, and a small fine head. The aroma is earthy and malty with a bit of fruit. Tastes nutty and malty, with a slightly fruity tang (I detect some cherry along with the citrus fruit). The hops are on the mild side, and the body is medium. Relatively subtle but quite decent.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Brenhophead (377) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 24, 2012
330mL bottle. Pours deep cloudy red with a big creamy off white head. Aroma of spicey english hops. Has that english hops metal twang in the flavour as well as toffee apple note. Not a bad beer but not outstanding either.
