Since April 1991, the Köstritzer black beer brewery, a subsidiary of the Bitburger brewery, has emerged as of one of the most modern breweries in Thuringia. In September 1993, it was with great pride we (re-) introduced the "original Köstritzer black beer".

330ml bottle. Pitch black body with a medium white head. Loads of lacing. Malt, some roasted notes, a hint of canned corn. Pretty light on the dark side so to say, albeit tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500 mL can poured. Pours a thick black with a big foam head. Very creamy, with a semi smokey malt aroma. Cool, malty flavor and finish. Plain on flavor, but overall not bad.

Ganz dunkel mit rötlichen Schimmern. Mittellanger hellbrauner Schaum. Sehr fein!

The aroma is full of rye. The color is very dark. Beautiful head. The taste is full of rye. Not an impressing beer. I was expecting a lot more but unfortunately I got disappointed.

Piwo pijalne, lekkie i przyjemne.

I must not be a fan of dark beer. This was the first beer I had in Germany. It’s cheap which is good. Taste is okay. Kind of bitter. Went down smooth.
