Since April 1991, the Köstritzer black beer brewery, a subsidiary of the Bitburger brewery, has emerged as of one of the most modern breweries in Thuringia. In September 1993, it was with great pride we (re-) introduced the "original Köstritzer black beer".

Nice tan head that was long lasting. A nice dark color with an aroma of coffee with a nutty undertone. Nice palate and pleasing after taste.

Dark brown, great tan head formation that has medium staying power. Pumpernickel aromas but no coffee, chocolate, and just a hint of caramel but not even that much. A very clean lager aroma overall, which is to say there’s not much there, just black bread from Cheesecake Factory. Light bodied and a bit spritzy, with gassy carbonation bubbles trickling on the tongue a little too harsh for my liking. As it warms up, you pick up on a hint of cocoa, which does liven things up. This reappears at the very end of the aftertaste. Fairly refreshing and easy to drink.

Butelka 330ml (01.09.2016).

Malt and hop in aroma
Clear bitter finish
Light taste considering very black appearance
Less roasted flavour nor sweetness

A kind of good pils.

Very nice beer, very dark in colour yet surprisingly mild flavour. A good alternative to the same old beers served in local bars. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a pitch black color with a foamy, beige head. Smells of bakers chocolate covered roasted malts, gently blending into earth. Has an utmost silk mouthfeel, although the carbonation maintains on a medium level, the beer’s creaminess is certainly a highlight in this. Drinks super easy, while the malts provides an interesting flavor profile throughout. Tastes of malts from the beginning till the end, but you can tell these guys tweaked this’s recipe to perfection. Earthen qualities up front, the beer carefully produces a subtle toffee malt quality which leaves my mouth salivating, gently coated by its silk mouthfeel. Then there is a complimenting bitterness, reminding of leafy hops, thoughtfully enhancing the malt presence, which at this stage reveal the initial bakers chocolate quality from the aromas. While this drinks laughable easy, I can’t stop gulping it for its world class mouthfeel, complimenting the maltiness in a truly outstanding, effective and enjoyable way.
