Reviewed 3/12/13. 11.2 oz bottle poured into the PROPER glass (ie. a Kostritzer pilsner glass). A: Pours a dark ruby red color. The head is a two finger mocha shade that fades rather quickly, befitting a lager. A decent amount of lacing is left on the glass. S: I notice some roasted nuts, chocolate, roasted barley, lager yeast, and coffee. It does a good job of T: Drier than the aroma suggested. The initial flavor is mainly roasted barley and coffee. Some lager fruitiness enters the palate in the middle, and the finish is more roasted barley, imparting a very dry feel devoid of significant sweetness. Not complex or exciting, but pleasant. M: Most pilsners wish they had this level of crisp dryness. Nothing really stays on the palate flavor-wise; I could see the argument for this being ’watery’ in terms of feel. Also thin, airy, and well carbonated. O: While it is a bit meh flavor-wise, the drinkability factor is superb, as it should be in a good lager. I won’t rush out to the store to buy more, but this really does hit the spot for me.

330ml bottle. 1/7/16 code date. Appearance: Black and opaque, with a thick, creamy khaki cap and nice lacing. Aroma: Caramel and light roasted malt. No hop presence. Taste: Starts with bready malt sweetness, turns to some caramel and touch of dark fruit, and finishes with roasted malt and bitterness. Mouthfeel: Medium body with a light to moderate carbonation. Finish: Very dry finish, with a hint of lingering roast. Overall: Good example of the style. roast is present throughout, but never sharp or overpowering. Has some dark fruit characteristics typical of dark German lagers. Light enough on the palate to remain easy drinking.

Look; beige head and black body, dark ruby edges. Aroma; brown caramels, milky chocolate, grass, leaves, basement. Taste; mild prunes, raisins, grass, dark caramels, cocoa notes - leading to a fruity finish, dark malts. Normal texture and soft carbonation. Easy black. The beer has a dark reddish brown color. The foam has a beautiful almond color and is soft. After the bulk had disappeared, a thin drape remains on top of the beef. The smell is average. The smell of the beer is to sweet. The sweet smell is again a little bready. In a distance there is some roasted barley. This little aroma is nice. The taste is a bit better. The bitter and dark taste of roasted barley is present. But not strong enough. The beer misses a lot of sophistication. The beer gets better after every sip. The beer also has a tiny hop taste.

When I first poured this, I thought I might have grabbed a Coca-Cola. It?s very dark. Not bad though.

500ml can. L: very dark cola, slightly transparent, fizzy tan head quickly gone. S: toasty bready malts mixed with dark berries. Very nice. T: similar to the smell. F: mouthfeel is the attraction here. It’s has the aroma of a stronger beer, then hits with some carbonation and a lighter body. So easy to drink but remaining full of flavour. O: many schwarzbiers have a promising nose yet come off watery. This one delivers.

0,33l Flasche. Dunkelbraunes Bier mit kleiner beiger Schaumkrone. Riecht nach Röstmalzen, schmeckt auch so mit einer leichten Note nach Schokolade.
