Head: coffee, smallish, frothy and quite dense, avg. retention. Colour: black, with red highlights. Aroma: caramel, licorice, roasted, not too strong. Taste: caramel or chocolate, dry roasted bitterness. Nice dry bitter finish. Quite light, the black equivalent of a good session lager.

From a 11.2 ounce bottle. Pours brow-black with slight head. Sweet nose, maybe raisins/fruit. Slight nutty, muted taste. I really enjoy this one.

A great schwarzbier (served on tap and of course in the original Köstritzer glass) with large renewable foam on top. Delicate aroma of hard roasted malt, light coffee tones and dark bitter chocolate. The taste varies over lightly smoked malt with burnt caramel tones for light coffee and customize hoppy bitterness. In the aftertaste dolls little fruit up and round it all in great style.

A medium bodied dark brown pour with a frothy off-white head. Softly carbonated smooth mouthfeel. Light caramel, roast and smokiness are the primary aroma and flavor components. Hops take a back seat. Not as crisp as some other Schwarzbiers, and more malt-forward.

Dark brown pour with small beige head. Aroma is roasty, some nuts, caramel and smoke. Taste is roasty, with a grain like taste, and nutty, well balanced. Slight hint of booze. Refreshing for a dark beer. Good stuff.
