Pours black into a dimpled mug. Small, one finger beige head that reduced to a thin film on the beer. Not much lacing. Aroma is quite malty more than anything else. Hints of coffee and bitter chocolate come through. Similar to the aroma the taste is driven by the malt profile. Some sweet chocolate and coffee are there with hops in the background. The finish is slightly bitter. Good balance to this brew. Medium bodied and a pretty soft carbonaton.

Refrigerate bottle poured into a glass. Pours dark brown with deep ruby highlights; head is tan. Taste is light coffee, light nuttiness, and a hint of smoke. The body is a little watery. Beer is ok, but I was expecting a little more.

Bottle from Champanes, has a clear dark pour (dark ruby is seen when held up to a light), gave an off-white and light tan good size foamy head, there is a lot of effervescence in this beer, aromas of roasted malt, some dry chocolate and caramel with hints of coffee in the background, not much sweetness on the nose and there may be a hint of nut in this beer to, flavors of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and coffee and light toasted bread, there is a little caramel sweetness in this beer but it is pretty dry on the palate and has a less than medium bitterness at the finish, the finish is pretty dry and has roasted malt and coffee trailing thereafter, medium mouth feel, a nice Schwarzbier.

Kostritzer Shwarzbier 500ml bottle Pours dark black with a small tan head. Aroma of toasty nuttiness with some sweet caramel and chocolate (like a tootsie roll). Not a strong aroma, but gets better and more pronounced as the beer warms. Medium carbonation that lasts throughout the drink. Flavor is of diet English stout. Smooth with some chocolate and nuts. Not overpowering and well balanced. Very drinkable, and would order it if I were looking for something lighter than I usually like but maintaining some flavor. Aftertaste pleasantly lingers.

Draught, St Goar, Germany Persistant creamy tan head atop a cola body. Some subtle roasted nuttiness and coffee on the nose. Continues on the body with some toffee sweetness. Medium body and carbonation, not too dry or bitter. Decent schwarzbier, certainly a benchmark.

Aroma of skunky roasted malt. It poured a very appealing dark brown/light black color with great head retention. It didn’t taste as good as it looked however. Initial taste of rice and hay with a bitter after taste. Lingering nastiness. Overall, I can’t say I’d recommend this to anyone as there are far better schwarzbiers out there.
