Mild banana and spicy nose. Pale beige head. Hazy pale brown color. Full filled wheaty taste. Fruity and average hopped. Not too sweet. At the end hoppy bitterness.

esox (1036) - Oulu, FINLAND - JAN 9, 2010
Draught. Hazy brown colour. Medium head is foaming and quite creamy. Wheaty aroma has some light fruitiness, banana and sour yeastiness. Dryish taste has sourness of yeast and some medium sweet maltiness. Light to medium bodied palate. Fizzy carbonation. Simple and boring.

Dark red/brown colour with a small head. Yeasty, roasted wheaty aroma with a strong note of banana. Sweetish taste. A bit too watery body with harsh carbonation.

Draught at brewpub. Murky brown with slightly rocky firm pale head. Nose is strong ripe banana, grainy roasted wheat, little dry smokiness and vanilla. Spritzy wheaty flavor, strong yeastiness and lingering halstablett herbs. Faint liquorice in there too. Somehow reminds me of kotikalja actually. Strongly carbonated, refreshing palate. Quite nice roasty dunkelweizen.

Draught (Koulu, Turku)
Deep hazy red, small head. Very cold (and it is -2C outside, for pitys sake). Sweet slightly grainy bananaey aroma. Beautiful full body, but very sharp carbonation. Good grainy taste, and real kick, not just some sweet fruity nonsense. Some pleasant hops too - real hops. Fills out very well as it warms. Their #2 beer after their porter, IMHO.

Draught@skolan. I couldn’t resist this brew when I saw that rsmeds and oh6gdx had tried it out. I took a pitstop on my way to the Aland islands myself. Hazy brown in colour. Minor brown head, lacings. The aroma wow, a banana like aroma with hops. Very filling and appealing. The flavour is refreshing hops, wheat and something that reminds me of banana. But it’s quite watery though. There is a wheaty and refreshing aftertaste.

Draught. Thanks to rsmeds for giving me a clue on this beer before my short 1 day trip to Rauma (a bit north of Turku) during Xmas day. So, rsmeds did warn me on wonderful aroma but quite crappy and empty flavour. I do have to agree on that one. Indeed it pours up enormously cloudy, and a weird brownish colourm the head was a very huge one for me though, slightly off-white (they even had to let the glass stand a while due to the foamy head). Aroma is yeasty, bananish, wheaty and also has some other berries and spices in it. Kind of Christmas meeting dunkelweizen. The flavour is wheat, yeast and dark fruit with weak banana. It somehow feels empty and watery. The typical "kouluish" nyance is also to be found in this one, though more hidden than in some others. Apparently this is a new "winterseasonal", which they decided to test out now, as their Christmas seasonal got sold out before their Portteri was ready. There may be another batch of this along with or after portteri again.

Draught from one hour old keg of the first batch of this brew since 2001. (Whoo!) Super cloudy -- opaque, frankly -- brown color (exceptional cloudiness probably due to keg freshness). Small, off-white head. Vaguely resembles a dark sahti... Spicy sweet and fruity aroma of yeast, wheat, and the typical banana. Hint of of nutmeg and cinnamon. The sweet, musty aroma is, surprisiginly -- and I believe most would agree, disappointingly -- followed by a fairly dry, wheaty flavor with a hint of the typical hefe-banana detectable. The aftertaste is even dryer, with a slight hoppiness to boot. Medium body, mild carbonation, dry palate, and vaguely creamy mouthfeel. So, the resurrection of a hefedunkel from my local microbrew, promises a whole great lot in appearance and aroma, but sadly fails to deliver in way of flavor. A decent but annoyingly uneven beer that obviously needs some fine-tuning in the flavor department. Nevertheless an enjoyable enough winter-wheat as it is.
