Bottled(500ml). -unfortunately just nice but not too good dunkel, coffee, raw sugar and caramel flavor with light hoppy notes, fruity sweet finish

Fantastic! Pours a rich red copper with a medium tan head with good lace. Aromas of toffee, sweet spice, dates. Toasted malt palate with cooked fruit in the finish (apples and raisins).

Bottle. An amazing beer for its low ABV. Dark with a dark brown hue with tan head with good retention. Sweet spicy aroma leading to a delicious palate with lots of sweet malt, some chocolate and subdued bitterness. Becomes a little bit cloying as you finish your third pint... but then again I can live with that. Good mouth feel with standard lager carbonation. You should try it on tap, where it *really* excels

On tap, Prague. Pours deep, cola red-brown with thick tan head. Sweet aroma of caramel and sugar. Sweet flavors of coffee and caramel, balanced with a bit of hops. Good mouthfeel, too: I wish the flavors lasted longer.

[on tap somewhere in the Czech Republic] Clear, ruby-brown with good lacing and a creamy cover. Plenty of diacetyl butterscotch in the aroma with some caramel and a hint of noble hops. The flavour is of sweet caramel plus diacetyl with strawberry/kiwi notes. Quite sweet with no bitterness. Maybe a little raisiny and brown ale-like. Medium body and very low carbonation with a clean finish.

(Draught at U Karla, Prague.) Dark mahogany brown. Thin white diminishing head. Sweet malty nose with hints of ham. Caramelly, roasted, malty flavour. Chewy, sweet, thick palate. Notes of liquorice.

On tap at the Pilsner Urquell restaurant, Stare Mesto, Prague. Pretty delicious but standard taste for the dunkel variety. Went well with the beef goulash with bread and potato-and-bacon pancakes I had with it. Nice place.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2005 Tasted this one from the 50cL bottle around it’s use-by date, and poured it into a tall tulip. A short, dense off-white head formed, quite slowly, atop a clear deep cola brown body. Initial peppery and Worcestershire sauce aroma subsided to reveal hints of milk chocolate, malt and dark berries. In the mouth, flavours reminiscent of a good teramisú crossed the palate, quite dessert-style malty and sweet. Fairly smooth, light in carbonation and reasonably big in flavour. Short in the swallow, with only a hint of sweetness and a feint astringent finish. Even though it’s a little sweet it seemed to be reasonably balanced and avoids becoming too cloying. Quite sessionable and for 3.8%, you could easily sit on it all night. Quite nice!!!

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark with the typical reddish hue, but - again - this has been added artificial colouring. Light in body but the sweetish caramel-like maltines combined with soft hops makes this a pleasant beer to drink. I’ve had this in versions named "Tmavý" or "Cerný", but it’s all the same "tmavé výcepni pivo.

Bottle. Hardly any aroma, though a tiny bit of sweetness sensed. Nice dark red appearance. Sweet flavor, unfortunately with very short finish. Great mouthfeel as a thirst quencher. Overall a bit disappointing
