Produced from special dark malts, which is why even its foam is dark.

Can. Reddish brown colour with a tan head. Sweet malty aroma. The flavour is sweet, roasted malt. Slightly bitter finish. Light to medium-bodied and easy to drink.

500ml bottle. Muted nose packed with malt; particular roasted nuttiness about it, some caramel sweetness, dark chocolate and a subtle woody vinous fruitiness lingering in the background. Pours a nice deep bronze body highlighted with red. Offwhite medium head leaves solid lace. Moderate carbonation, the palate isn’t too lengthy but it has a good malt stickiness that lends the body a bit of extra fullness than you’d expect from the abv. Plenty of malt on the body, quite sweet overall; chocolate, cereal, caramel, brown sugar, cola, some dried fruit and woodiness. Finish is drying with a slight gritty bitterness. Nice, simple, easy, flavoursome dark lager, bit on the sweet side.

I had this beer on tap in Prague, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The nose is a sweet smoke, pouring deep brown with a rich caramel head and complex body of caramel and butterscotch, a touch of hardwood smoke, a touch of brown sugar and a slight splash of whiskey.

Red brownish colour. Pale brown head. Some hints of syrup and malts in the nose. Maltiness and licorice aromas in the taste. A mild and a bit sweet taste. A 0.5l can from local shop.

(Draught) Pours very dark reddish brown. The aroma is malty and a medium to full sweet with notes of brown sugar, raisins, buttery fudge and cookies alongside some hints of hops (maybe a touch of grass and herbs). The flavour is medium sweet with tones of dark, sugary fudge alongside grassy and earthy hops. The finish is hop dryish with burned sugar/caramel sweetness. The mouthfeel is light crisp. Light to medium bodied.

...bottle. Nice dark beer, with an off-white, lasting head. Smooth, malty, grainy, goes down well. No overpowering alcohol taste, which is not typical of the style. Slightly sweet, but not over the top, balanced by roasted malt with a nice smooth finish, and a hint of hops. Surprisingly good, but overpriced due to the low alcohol content.

Pours beautyful nutty-golden with a nice big offwhite head. Aroma is yeasty, hoppy and slightly roasted. It is very malty sweet and without carbonation - almost caramelised...

Pours a four finger light tan head that fades very slowly leaving a good lace. Clear, deep mahogany color. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Malty nose. Flavor is sweet malty with hops in background. 500ml bottle €5.20 on M/S Silja Symphony ferry between Stockholm and Helsinki. From my notes - 7/8/2008.
