Produced from special dark malts, which is why even its foam is dark.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 3D). Bottle 50 cl - Batch L5174 18:10. AROMA: slight sweet bread crust aroma with faint notes of caramel and some cereal (rice, corn). no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: dark ruby color and translucent. moderate-low tanned head with below average retention. TASTE: very dilluted caramel and roasted notes with a slight sweet background. low bitterness with a sweet finish. PALATE: thin body with low carbonation. OVERALL: a very poor czech dark lager.

Bottle. Average size tan foamy head over a clear dark garnet body. Aroma/taste of molasses, dark sugar, toast and dark chocolate. A bit watery, thin light bodied.

Oh goody a bottle with medals on it, wait a minute it hasn’t got one from AIBA, sh*t everyone gets one of them - even Outback Brewery got one for having pretty labels - not a good start. Now on to the beer - pours a neat red-brown w/- a big rocky head. Aroma is dominated by caramel upfront followed by stone fruit (plums) and a touch of cinimmon (sp). Flavour is sparse and sweet mostly caramel maltishness. What is there is quite good but is sooo watered down it loses the plot. More malt & alcohol please! Still as a mid-strenght beer if you’re driving it beats most of the sh*t we brew and drink over here. Cheque please.

I had this beer on tap in Prague, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The nose is a sweet smoke, pouring deep brown with a rich caramel head and complex body of caramel and butterscotch, a touch of hardwood smoke, a touch of brown sugar and a slight splash of whiskey.

I liked this - it was quite sweet, but not as much so as one may expect. Had a little smokey kind of taste, which made it interesting.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2009 From tap: a little roasty, pretty sweet, nice maltyness, mainly caramel, some wet wood, some rye(?), dry finish, pretty stale and weak tasting, not impressive.

On tap in Prague at U Kroka ... poured a nice dark brown. Aroma of sweet caramel and cocoa. Body was a little lightier for a dunkel. Overall quite nice; a quite hoppy/tart at the end versus German dunkels but still enjoyable

Can. Clear dark brown with a large but diminishing tan head. Aroma is bready, toasted malt, caramel. Flavour is lightly malty, some roast malt, but mainly milky chocolate/coffee and caramel. Basically no bitterness which is a bit disconcerting.
