2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 3, 2006On tap at the brewery. Transparent copper with no head or movement whatsoever. Coca Cola, ginger and caramel are nearly all that’s there for the aroma. Chocolate on copper for flavor. Some peppered tin and buttery caramel chews. Medium-bodied and way too carbonated for the palate, finishing with pepper and allspice. One of the worst doppelbocks I’ve ever had.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 thedm (4772) - Fort Wayne, USA - MAY 18, 2005
This draft brew from the brewery poured a large sized head of dark brown colored mostly diminishing finely sized bubbles that left behind a transparent brown colored body with no carbonation and a good lacing. The aroma was nice and sweet with caramel and malt. The hoppy caramel malt initial mouth feel fell to a lingering caramel malt finish. It was off the Doppelbock mark and very strange for the style.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 hotstuff (3340) - Indiana, USA - FEB 14, 2005
On tap at Kraftbrau. Poured a small sized head that quickly dissipated, fair lacing, fine sized bubbles, uncarbonated, transparent, and a reddish brown hue. The aroma was sweet, malty and caramel . The flavor tasted malty, caramel and some hops. The taste just seemed off for this style IMO. Mouthfeel was smooth.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 PhillyBeer2112 (2437) - Oviedo, Florida, USA - MAY 14, 2003
Burnt amber color with medium head. Rich toffee-candy aroma with notes of cinnamon and bread dough - nice complex aroma. Very very smooth (bottle-conditioned?!) with fruity malt and some under-stated melanoidins balanced by an earthy finish. To repeat: a wonderful silky texture. Medium alcohol presence is well masked.

UPDATED: AUG 3, 2003 Who knows Dopplebocks? I certainly don't, and with that said...this is lighter than most, a beautiful amber. Slightly cloudy, with an exceptionally persistent smallish head. Nose is slightly of alcohol and a great deal of earthiness, and some fruitiness. The flavor is alcohol, sweet fruit, and salt! Interesting. None of the components is overpowering. Good...but what do I know?
