4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (10440) - Como, ITALY - AUG 28, 2011
Courtesy of Papsø Cloudy amber color; medium-sized head, compact. The aroma is malty and fruity, seducing, with traces of cream and cheese. It has a strong body, with smooth mouthfeel; and with powerful caramel and toffee flavor, quite sweet; there is a touch of yeast and cheese; in the flavor, some of the barrel ageing is more evident than in the aroma; the bitterness is extreme, with resiny sharpness. In the final the sweetness is cut by the alcohol. Powerful, excellent example of West Coast Barley Wine.

Bottle, nr 254 of 399, from trade with Papsoe. A dense, small, beige head leaves lacings as the unclear, dark amber beer leaves the glass and enters my throat. There’s some toothpaste-like hops on the nose, but compared with the regular edition it’s just a shadow of itself hopwise. Alcohol, dried fruits, caramel maltyness and a spiced touch as well. It’s full-bodied, warming and smooth on the palate, with flavors of bitterness, citrus peel, resins and caramel and caramel and dried fruits. Lasting finish. I think the aroma is this one is a bit boring. Nice but boring, at least compared to the regular one. The flavor is at least as good as the regular one, and it’s smoother. Still, the aroma thing makes me rate this one slighly lower. Well, on second consideration, I don’t. 110523

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 thewolf (8669) - Kolding, DENMARK - MAY 13, 2011
Bottle, bought @ LIVA, Kolding.
Light hazy red-orange with a large, creamy, off-white head. Fine duration. Aroma is mildly boozy, esters, plums, oak, pear, oranges and some rum notes. Low carbonation, fat creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is elegant, some good caramel as base, dryish oaky, some viniousness. Red currants and plums as well. Very nice.
