Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Feb 11, 2006 There seems to be much debate amongst the raters about what this beer is. In my opinion, it’s not a Bohemian Pilsener as listed. In its appearance and strong, sweet worty aroma, it’s much akin to other pale bocks that I’ve had. The 4.9% abv contributes to the puzzle. And, according to the brewer’s website: "Pěna je naprosto jemná a rovná, po napití kreslí po stěnách sklenice kroužky tzv. " hladinky". Název " hladinka" či " hladké" je tak logicky vysvětlen. Toto je nejžádanější ve všech pivnicích v Čechách , které takto čepují pivo. " Actually, I don’t know what I copied from their website. This beer isn’t listed at all. The flavor is rich with sweet malts with little, if any, hop presence. Very much like a bock, but certainly not like a doppelbock in its moderate strength. And certainly un-Pilsener-like in its hop deficiency. The finish is sticky sweet and malty. Not a bad brew. I just don’t know what it is.

JPDIPSO (4865), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Aug 1, 2003 Light golden color with foamy off white head. Light grain and wintergreen hoppy malt. Sweet malt and dry cardboard flavor. A bit spritzy. Malt liquor with a touch of floral and spicy hops. Somewhat stale pale malt aftertaste. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Jun 1, 2006 Bottle procured at Tres Bonne Cuisine, a polish deli in Boise: Pours a pale yellow color with an average looking head and lacing. The nose is lightly sweet with some light malt and a twang of alcohol. The flavor is neutral, not very assertive in any category. Awefully light for a double bock but I’m thinking it’s more or less a pilsner. A crisp hop bitterness in the tail. Went well with a bockwurst I had for lunch. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 23, 2005 Pours gold with medium, white head. Aroma of hopcit, some sour fruits. Tastes pale malty, with hopcit, some honey, and some apricot hints. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Dec 2, 2001 Faint dry hoppy aroma (somewhat pilsner-like), some grain, some off scents (egg white?, slightly soured milk?). Pale yellow color with a moderate frothy head that never quite goes away, fairly good lacing. A bit less than medium body, dry, very slight sweetness. Lagery, pilsnery hop flavor dominates, some grain/cereal malt, but not too much else. Not especially clean tasting, and not what I would call a bock (and certainly not a doppelbock)...needs more malt character at the very least, and brighter flavors would help. Rather drab. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 27, 2006 Golden lager with a thick creamy white head. Loads of cereals in aroma, with light oxidation notes. In mouth, sweet crisp malt, again lots of cereals, a bit metallic, medium bodied, smooth. Not bad, but....why Pale Double Bock????? Bought about 6 mo. ago at Beers of the world. heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Mar 20, 2006 A dark gold body with some floaties. The funny thing is that I got a six pack right next to their pils, which I found to be fresh and tasty. The aroma was corn with a hint of grass and honey. The taste had corn with some bread crust and earthy turnips. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Jul 18, 2007 Aroma of lightly sweet malt, but not finding a familiar hop. Some sort of aroma suggesting hay. Brassy gold color with a multifingered white head. Thinnish. A bit too carbonated. The flavor suggests wheat, but there is a nice balance of noble hop. The finish is a bit like cooked grain, with not really enough bitter for balance. Fairly dry though.
