Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA May 18, 2008 Bottle courtesy of douglas88. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells of caramel, nutty, some spice. Tastes of caramel, some sweet malt, tea, earthy. Finish is slightly vegetal. Nice. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Jun 26, 2006 Bottle compliments of Tres Bonne Cuisine in Boise, ID<!-- BR -->Pours a dark brownish black color, a light tan head. The nose is sweet and rich with some subtle skunk and corn notes. Lots of molasses and brown sugar, some roast and a touch of vanilla. The finish is balanced, it has that classic tangy "imported european dark lager" hint in the end. A bit traditional but a bit stale and a letdown. Ernest (4481), Boulder, Colorado, USA Nov 30, 2001 Roasty, nutty malt aroma, with notes of coffee, cola, and maple syrup. Frothy diminishing head on a dark brown liquid. Just less than medium body, rather sweet yet slightly dry, with a hint of sourness. Major flavors are cola, roasted almonds, and maple syrup...it’s remarkably quite like a less sweet Coca-Cola without the buzzing carbonation. Very quaffable, but the sweet cola-like flavor is a bit odd. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Feb 28, 2007 Aroma of dark sweet malt with some coffee. Very dark brown with ruby hilites (under halogen). A beige head that left rapidly. Thinnish mouthfeel. Starts with roasted malt, a bit dry, not so sweet as the malt aroma might suggest. Light coffee notes. Arguably a bit of dark plummish fruit. The finish is dry, and there is a balance of overdone toast by hop. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Sep 26, 2002 Dark brown color, large head. Dark roasted malts, slightly sweet, lightly hopped, not a lot of bitterness. Medium bodied dark ale. Mouthfeel is full round and smooth. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is malty and slightly bitter. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jul 19, 2003 This brew poured a smnall head of light brown fine to medium sized bubbles. It has a dark browm semi-transparent body with a mild malty aroma. The moiuthfell is smoothe from start to finish. Its flavor is a mild molasses malty caramel clean one that is very pleasing to the palate. This is a very nice beer to drink on a summer evening. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 1, 2004 Retired? Poured dark black with sticky tan head and toffee aroma. Smoky wood flavors on a smooth beer ... quite nice. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Jul 19, 2003 When poured into my glass, this beer had a small tan head with fine sized bubbles. The body was clear with a brown-reddish hue. The lacing was only fair with this beer. The flavor reminded me of burnt coffee and the mouthfeel was smooth.
