Bottle; pours dark clear amber with a khaki head; sweet aroma of caramel and some floral hints; taste is more sweet than bitter with caramel and a touch of bread and some floral notes; finish is dry with touch of caramel; better than expected

This is the second time I drink this beer and I don’t really get it. Ok, here we go. 500 ml bottle. Nice deep rich dark cherry-brown colour. Beige creamy head. Aroma is rather weak: alcohol, French plum, malts, some lactic stuff. Taste: booze (yeah, stands above all), brown sugar, prune, malt. Sweet & dry rapid palate. Well, some port wine notes in there? Not sure. I say this beer is unbalanced.

Nice head, black colour. It smells malty, darkmalty. The taste is darkmalty, bit roasty, ok. Got a stale industrial touch, somehow its still drinkable.

the aroma is caramel and fruity with notes of flowers... the taste of caramel, apples and plum with some shades of toffee and herbs... dry sweet finish... sorry, but it was much better 3 or 4 years ago...

Barwa: głęboka miedź / rubinowa, klarowna. Piana ecru, średniej wielkości, szybko opadająca. Aromat: typowo słodowy - karmel, melanoidyny, suszone śliwki, wiśnie, wino, lekka nuta alkoholowa. Mało wyrazisty. Smak: umiarkowanie pełny i nieco słodki, z nikłym wysyceniem.

I think many of the people who didn’t like this beer were not familiar with the baltic style, which is not the rich roasty robust porter most are familiar with. While the ABV is quite high, this is a smoother beer. It’s a nice ruby brown, rich in caramel, malt, and licorice. Sweet, but not cloying. A really approachable dark beer that sneaks up on you with it’s 7.8% ABV. Will buy again if I come across it.

500ml bottle pours dark brown & clearish with a brief head, the aroma is licorice & malty, the taste is malty & mildly bitter while the strong alcohol content is not overbearing, first baltic porter I’ve tried & this seems to sum up the description of what a good one should be, I enjoyed it

Calling this a porter is a bit of a liberty isn’t it? The colour is several degrees too light, being a dark(ish) caramel with plenty of carbonation contributing to a greenish brown head. Aromas of sweet chocolately malt and those self-same caramel notes. Those malty notes dominate and do so in the flavour with a tingly mouthfeel as well. As it developed on the palate, it became juicy and somewhat astringent. Bittersweet is right, but not in a very pleasant way. What a shame. Oh well, at least it’s another country ticked off.

UPDATED: JUN 11, 2014 Almost surreal to find bottles of this Bielorussian Baltic Porter in an ethnic grocery store in Auckland. The colour is dark coppery, translucent, with a thin, bubbly, beige head. Aroma of malty, sweet lager, with a touch of ovaltine and that lager skunkiness. Flavour starts terribly sweet, syrupy, with malt and vanilla, and almost nothing else but a whisper of bitterness. In time, with every new sip, that bitterness takes a more defined form, but it is not roasty nor hoppy. Just a carbonation type, astringency or what, but it kind of tingles all over. Watery, unexciting, all in all, it is a typical specimen, but one of the bad ones. One major achievement of this motherfucker is that it hides the alcohol superbly. It feels like you’re just drinking some weird juice from a bagged powder. Sorry, the swearing just came out naturally.
