3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ungstrup (26476) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - NOV 19, 2009
Bottled. A red-brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel as well as lighter notes of roasted malt and berries. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and roasted malt, leading to a dry bitter finish. The body is a bit thin.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Hermod (2226) - Vantaa, FINLAND - OCT 20, 2009
50cl bottle, local store. Pours brown color, thin beige head. Roaste malt aroma. well balanced sweetness, slightly watery, otherwise a decent schwarzbier. Very easy to drink.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 mjs (3665) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 26, 2009
(Bottle) Dark brown and clear. Medium sized and lightly tan coloured head. Hops and lightly roastedness in aroma. Medium bodied and dry palate with quite high carbonation. Hops, malts, harshness, bitterness and light roastedness in taste. Bitter aftertaste. Not impressive.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 FatPhil (7597) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - AUG 8, 2009
500ml bottle (S Market) - shared by Jarkko at work - thanks!
Deep brown, brief beige head. Slightly metallic aroma. Quite thin palate. Drying hoppiness, a bit extracty. Malts quite full, but simple unsophisticated sweetness and burntness accompany slight husky graininess. Didn’t do it for me.
1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 ogivlado (5042) - Zagreb, CROATIA - JUL 22, 2009
Bottled(500ml). -Nice reddish/brown coloured, medium sized off-white head, weak coffee caramel nose. The taste isn’t much different; very watery with weak notes of coffee and grain. As Doggythedog allready said, definitely the dullest schwarzbier that I’ve had in a while.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Marko (3635) - Split, CROATIA - JUL 17, 2009
Bottle, 4.3% (the Slovenian importers label said 4.8% heh), 9.8° that ogivlado brought from Slovenia and shared with me (thanks!) After hearing it was the highest rated of all the beers we’ve had today bar Forstner Maibock and after seeing the lovely red-brown, almost black body with a greyish brown head in the glass we had somewhat big expectations from this beer. Unfortunately, this never lived up to them. The nose is extremely weak, grainy, with some very light coffee. The taste is even weaker if that’s possible. Water, some dried figs but mostly dry grain, some popcorn, dull and extremely light, definitely the dullest schwarzbier that I’ve had in a while. I was a bit disappointed that they don’t import it here but now I’m glad they don’t. Boo for Krombacher.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 kappldav123 (3857) - Nordhausen, GERMANY - JUN 14, 2009
The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Starts modest malty, mild, reminds me of old chocolate. A bit moldy finish. Still very mild. Not my favourite!
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 zvikar (2068) - Ramat Gan, ISRAEL - MAR 13, 2009
From bottle, brownish color with nice tan head, aroma of barnyard grass and malt, flavors of barnyard beefy grassy low to medium sweetness and medium texture, the barnyard flavor was too extreme for my taste.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DSG (3978) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - FEB 14, 2009
Dark brown color with a medium bubbly beige head. Toasty/roasty aroma. Sweet roasted flavor with some malt, coffee with milk, light chocolate hints and a bit of dark bread. Medium-bodied. Pretty tasty and drinkable.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 sayravai (4654) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 17, 2009
(Bottled) Very dark brown with a creamy, tanned head and some lace. Lightly roasted-malty aroma with sourish-milky hints. Lactic-sourish flavor with slightly roasted malt and hints of toffee and caramel. Light to medium body with soft carbonation. Very easy to drink. A quality German product with no faults, but without any passion whatsoever.
