(bottle) Slightly unclear, dark brown colour with a tall and tanned foamy white head. Roasty malty and leafy aroma with notes of caramel, sweet milk and hints of berries, showing an early infection. Slightly bitter flavour, almost watery body and slightly roasted malty palate with caramel and slightly burnt notes; moderately carbonated mouthfeel; slim roast-malty finish with subtle berry-fruity notes. Disappointing. 24.XI.11

From Tesco. Stout-like, glossy, good as pitch with a sinking tan collar. Richer aroma than the Kaiserdom, with prune, rusted iron, evergreen and honey notes. Slick and pleasant with a coffee-dunked butter biscuit character..hints of puffed rice and spruce. Some rusty schwarz-like chocolate, roasted grain. Good.

500 mL bottle from Tesco poured into a pint glass at home. Beige somewhat unstable head over a black beer. Aroma is typical schwarzbier, roasted malt with a hint of chocolate. Malty with a bit of roasted sharpness. Drinkable but lacks the caramel or chocolate notes of better dark beers.

500ml Bottle from Tesco:
Dark roasted malts and some chocolate upfront coupled with a stronger coffee smell that I would have like but nothing too overbearing or off-putting. It is quite sweet and has some background vanilla notes that I was not expecting.
Dark mahogany brown with an inch tall dark tanned head. Retention is good, lasts about a couple minutes.
Dark malts and hints of barley along with a sweet chocolate flavour that matches the nose well. There is very little evidence of the coffee or vanilla from the smell however and the beer is the better for it in my eyes. It has hints of brown sugar too.
Medium to light bodied with mild carbonation and a rich, creamy smoothness to the sip. It is quite and crisp with a mild bitter end to it.

A rather enjoyable beer that went down quite well and would make an excellent session beer in my opinion. It wasnt outstanding by any means but decent.

11/12/11. 11.2oz bottle. Opaque deep brown pour with a frothy khaki head that fades fast and doesnt lace at all. Sweet caramel aroma with a teensy touch of butterscotch and roasted malts. Sweet caramel flavor with grainy malts and just a teensy bit of roast. This is practically a Vienna instead of a Schwarz. Meh.

Little aroma or head on this one. Bland, inoffensive mouthfeel and taste. Drinkable, but only marginally so.

Tallahassee, Fl. ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 330 ml bottle. Very dark brown pour, tight of-white colored head, minimal lacing. Nice roasty aroma, some nuttiness as well. Flavor has some subtle dark chocolate notes, some earthy potting soil-like essence, just a bit of licorice. Fades and metallicizes a bit near the end. Mouthfeel is smooth. Pretty decent.

330ml bottle poured a dark brown color with a big off-white head that settled quickly leaving a few spots of lacing behind. Aroma is light roasted malts and some floral hops. Taste is light roasted malts and light chocolate with a mild hop bitterness in the finish. Body is a little on the thin side for this style of beer, but carbonation is adequate. A very easy drinking beer.
