Bottle. A handsome beer - dark mahogany with a generous beige head. Roasted malt aroma. Flavour is roast, coffee with a dry finish. Prickly mouthfeel and a little thin.

Zarkam (400) - Helsinki, FINLAND - AUG 16, 2014
500ml bottle, very dark brown colour, medium fizzy tan head, good lacing. Moderately malty roasty aroma of coffee, chocolate and caramel with light foloral hops. Taste is initally blanced bittersweet and slightly acidic, turning into a mildly bitter finish with an acetic and moderately burnt feel. Medium body, oily texture, lively carbonation. Fairly tasty but unsurprising schwarzbier, could’ve been a bit hoppier.

Kita (1038) - Koper, SLOVENIA - AUG 16, 2014
Bottle, 0.50l. Clear dark brown color with small creamy tan-like head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, licorice and a bit of smoke. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel and roasted malt, follows by grainy sourness, a bit plain mouthfeel and mild bitter finish. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Pretty average schwarzbier...

Pours a deep cola brown with two fingers of fluffy tan head, decent retention and well-defined moderate lacing. Nose is dark roasted malts, caramel and molasses, slightly smoky. Taste is light malt, hint of smoke, mild bitter finish. Mouth feel is watery, light body and moderate carbonation. So... it’s a... slightly smokey... dark... lager... with a little bitter on the finish? It’s OK, I guess - better than an adjunct lager - but it’s not something I’d go looking for again.

Aroma is very roasty malts, caramel and molasses. Taste is similar, pretty rich with a slight bitterness on finish. Appearance is a copper/amber body with a creamy white head that retains fairly well.
