2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 SilkTork (4691) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - MAY 13, 2004
UPDATED: OCT 6, 2004
Oct, 2002. Bottle.Kronenbourg is France’s largest brewer and was founded, as the name of this lager suggests, in 1664. The brew itself dates from 1952. Kronenbourg has, since 2000, been part of the huge Scottish & Newcastle brewing group. This is a very dry lager with a nice balance of sweetness and hops. The flavour is very laid back and needs to be teased out, but there are fruits present, a damp brown bread maltiness, and a suggestion of honey. [1.9]
May, 2004: Keg, POW, Rochester. Invited to a game of Bat & Trap (Kent pub game played since the 14th century - an early form of cricket) in the pub almost opposite our house, which we don’t use because it doesn’t serve cask ale, gave me an opportunity to do a head to head with Fosters and 1664. The 1664 was clearly the winner - it has a pleasant creamy mouthfeel, a little sweetness and a delicate but crisp and effective hop bite in the finish. [2.3]
Oct, 2004: Pression - Des Fleurs, Nimes. Corner bar by the elevated railway station. Some thin pale malt flavour. Lots of gas. Very soft minimal grassy hops. Complete garbage. [1.8]
Average score: 2.0

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 sayravai (4526) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUN 3, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 24, 2007 (Bottled) Clear golden with a smallish head. Corny-grainy-malty aroma with some hay-grassy hops. Corny-rice-malty, reasonably grassy-hoppy (but somewhat harshly so), slightly buttery. Some sourish hints, maybe because of the wheat used. Quite light-bodied, but not watery palate with high and slightly fizzy carbonation. A somewhat drinkable, asian-style pale lager.
(Bottled, rated 6.3.2005, was 4-2-4-2-8=2.0) Pale golden color with a medium, vanishing head. Quite grassy nose with some buttery hints. Sweetish and acidic, slightly buttery, malty flavor with a tiny hint of honey. Lingering, fruity-hoppy finish. Light-bodied, foamy-carbonated palate. A reasonably hoppy, sweetish and smooth but foamy lager. Not a bad lager, and doesn’t have any serious faults - but still quite lightweight flavor- and palatewise.
