A golden beer with an OK head. Head disappears all too quickly. The aroma is nicely hoppy. Nice bitterness but still very watery.

Keg at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear golden colour with a fizzy white head. Aroma of grain, cereal and maize. Taste is exactly the same. Light bodied and moderate carbonation. A light bitterness in the finish. Crisp, clean and refreshing but it sure is bland and boring. Standard lager really.

From bottle. Clear and golden with medium head. Decent taste: crisp and clean with a hint of butterscotch. Standard Euro lager.

From can at train to Lille with KL, AKH and GH. Clear golden. White lacing and diminishing head. Weak aroma of hops, grain and maize. Similar taste. Rather sweet and with a hint of pears. A mediocre Eurolager.

33 cl. can at home from fridge in large glass. Pretty standard lager with normal carbonation, colour and head. Surprisingly little aroma, partly brewed on maize which I do not like and a bit too sweet for my taste. Where the 1664 does score over many lagers in my oppinion is its rather distinctive, lingering aftertaste which I would claim I could recognize at a blind tasting - though to be fair, I have never tried. An easy drink and I remember it as being distinctly better on tap.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Surprisingly good for a PL, though I like Kronenbourg’s blanc so it shouldn’t be that surprising. Smooth and richly malty.

Tolerant lager. Malt in the aroma, the taste is very simple, but not obnoxious. Not the worst option.
