jjpm74 (2883), Connecticut, USA Mar 10, 2005 Pours a cloudy pale blonde color more similar to a Witte than a Tripel. Taste is of some orange and spices. A little bit of a cidery aftertaste. Not bad. ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Oct 21, 2004 2004 bottle on sale in the 95 cent bin! Appearance of a very filtered, lifeless pale lager with small fleeting white head, maybe a hint more gold than your typical lager, but not much. Aroma is light hay, some dusty cobwebs and a hint of dry hops. Very dry with a note of spice. Flavor is very restrained and light, with the flavor climaxing at the very end of the palate with honey, almonds, light pears and a hint of alcohol and yeast. Has a very old and thin feel to it, little to no sweetness to speak of. Just seems like they should have brewed a bigger beer; the flavor just dosent go far. Light apples, hints of dry coriander, highly astringent and watery. At least mine didnt have a problem with carbonation. Obviously an older bottle, but an abbey trippel should be able to age a while, so I’m not very sympathetic. Yeast apparency is very low, you have to strain at first to get any trippel-like qualities. DYCSoccer17 (2009), Davis, California, USA Oct 15, 2004 Spicy aroma with lots of pepper and coriander. Lemon notes. Somewhat sweet. Seems more like a wit than a tripel...Cloudy orange/honey blonde body with ENORMOUS frothy whish/slightly yellow head. Too much head. Roasty yeastly sour and astringent tastes. I get lots of metallic notes. Slightly roasted malty flavors come through. Tastes like a dark quad in a way with a blonde body and sour metallic notes. This one is way off. Duke (117), New York, USA Mar 26, 2004 Yellow straw gold color with a massive white head spilling over. Very carbonated. Sweet apple and faint citrus aroma. Taste is sweet apple cider. Not bad but not what I look for in a good brew. argo0 (6145), Washington DC, USA Jan 20, 2004 Cloudy golden with minimal white head. Aroma is strong, fruity (peach), orange peel, herbal. Taste is spicy and herbal, some lemon, mildly sweet (honey). Medium body, mild acidity, wet finish.
